Allshare facility - how to use?

Hello,

I have a Samsung GS2 and am trying to use the allshare facility . However it appears that you need to use a wifi network.

I have tried using the phone's wifi hotspot but it doesn't work (I have an unlimited data plan). It seems that it want's to search for a seperate wireless network but I don't have one.

is there a way of using allshare either using the wifi hotspot or by using a cable?

Allshare is a program designed to let you access media on your home PC using your mobile via your Wi-Fi network. It can stream videos from home PC to Phone and to other devices when the phone is attached. It is a media server similar to Twonky and others available from the Play Store.

What do you want to do with the program?

I would like my ps3 to be able to link to my phone. Both are ok with Allstate, but when I turn Allstate on my phone, it searches for a wifi network. I want to use my portable wifi hotspot on my phone as I don't have broadband, but the phone can't do this?

are you just wanting to use your phone for tethering then?

Settings->wireless and networks more...->tethering and portable hotspot -> Portable wifi hotspot.

That is not possible. You need the PS3 to be connected to a network either by a cable or wireless and your phone would receive the data from the PS3 via a wireless router. Allshare is media server software but it needs a wireless network to function.

Thanks again - It's not tethering as I can already do that.

It's just a case of using allshare to be able to stream the phone content through to my PS3. My problem is that when I activate Allshare on my phone, it looks for a wireless network. I wouuld like to use the portable wifi hotspot as that wireless network but I don't know how to do it.

That is not possible because when the phone is being used as a Wi-Fi hotspot (for tethering) the Wi-Fi connection to any network is switched off. It cant be on two networks at the same time. It either works as a WiFi hotspot or it connects using WiFi to an exitsing network.

Hope this helps.

It does, thank you. A shame because I got rid of my home broadband as my phone's internet performs better.

But this lead to another thing, if you can help:
Would the same problem exist if I were to buy a smart TV?

Thank you for helping.

wow your Home BB must have been pretty bad. Mobile Phone BB main downside is the massive ping rates and as you pointed out - no home network.

Yes it would as it would also need a router to deliver streams to it. You could buy a wireless router and use it to deliver streaming on your home network without it having to be connected to the Internet. This could stream video and music files to your smart TV and would also allow you to use all share to stream files from your phone to your TV and PS3. Wireless routers are quite affordable now and some cost little more than Apple charge for a iPhone charger!
