Yes, it is the future. They will make tons of money because music fans would probably prefer to watch a hologram of a dead star, than many living modern stars.

I can't honestly understand why anybody would be excited or actually need to see a hologram of any dead artist at a gig.

It's a disturbing development. It's basically saying that someone else has the right to a dead person's character.

No that doesn't explain how a hologram works at all.
It wasn't a hologram.
As with most of these stage effects they are usually the update of Pepper's Ghost.
It has been done quite a few times already ever since The Gorllaz used it.
I don't even know if there ever has been a real hologram used for these types of sage show 3D effects.
