It seem to me that its very possible for ntl and telewest to give homechoice a bit of bandwidth for their service, and this wouldn't be a bad idea for ntl with their dry piggy banks, therefore they could share the cost of developing the service.

homechoice prices are quite good but i want programming, cos you cant really always know what you want to watch and thats why they say that its not a replacement for other paytv services but just an add-on.

Have heard of Homechoice and seems like an excellent idea. have said for ages that cablke should have been offering true pay-per-view for some time now but have lagged behind BSkyB as it tries to move closer to pay-per-view.

btw, is there a website for Home Choice?

http://www.homechoice.co.uk/

They provide an interesting service but offer no widescreen options but a reasonably cheap and reasonably reliably always on internet service as an option.

It is interesting technology.

ntl did do some trials with Yes TV in Cardiff over a similar service, but decided, as ntl always do, that it would be better to do the whole thing themselves.

The trial ended almost exactly two years ago. There may be someone here from the Cardiff franchise who remembers them.

The problem for homechoice is that it is only BT that is forced to wholesale its lines to them, and the cost that BT charge is too much to make a viable service at the moment. Perhaps ntl will come around again to the view that there would be money to be made in wholesaling its lines to someone like Yes TV or Homechoice.

They tied up the Cable Modem frequencies in Whitchurch for a while, so trailists in the area couldn't use their cms.

Part of the desicion was that ntl would do it on their own but there was a bit of a falling out with Yes TV behind the scenes which may have influenced things.

Yes have a posh building down in Cardiff Bay and are rumoured to be in bed with Kingston and BT.

Latest news on HomeChoice plans: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/displayarticle.php?id=4741

Looks like there will be a lot of development in 2002 with VOD services, both from DSL-powered services and ones from cable operators.

Yep but no plans too increase ADSL speeds Ie what people have been petitioning for the past year

Homechoice is available in my area, but at £20 per month for 115k its pretty bad considering I could pay £5 more and get 512k access.

I know everyone feels about this too since may petitions have been going on for them too upgrade there ADSL services.

Frankty 256k would be more then enuff for me, would have been nice since Homechoice started in London due too London being important apparantly.
