I am going to take a punt at Karen going for the role of Eliza Doolittle as they need Karen to still be at war (if not actually knowing it) with Ivy as well as Houston and her ex husband who is running My Fair Lady. I am also wondering whether Karen's boyfriend a song at some point seeing as he is a West End star in his own right?

Spoiler
Cool sounds good as Bombay Dreams was about a wannabee Bollywood film star which was played by Jaffrey

I loved the second episode even more than the first. 20th Century Fox Mambo is so catchy. I can't wait to download it when the soundtrack is out (May 21). I really wanted Karen to get the role, but I suppose she will get Eliza Doolittle.

Enjoyed episode 2 a lot less

I am finding it impossible to warm to Ivy - she seems utterly bland, a facade. Which is probably the point - to be a good actress she 'becomes' the character so there is nothing of herself on show. Unfortunately that means that making a connection is harder.

Found the adoption plot pointless. Could have gone somewhere if they continued to disagree but no. Hubby comes round almost straight away.

The auditions went on too long IMO. I get its difficult to choose!! Move on!!!

But, liked the original songs better this week. And still liking Karen a lot.

I'll certainly be giving it another go next week. I think it might take a little time to really hit its stride this one. But I think it'll be worth sticking with it until it does.

And I'm still sure the Marylin idea is dodgy.......

Watching Episode 1 now on Sky 1. The tv says it should be NCIS LA but Smash came on instead.

I though this was just going to be on Sky Atlantic.

The lip syncing of the songs is out of time but other than that quite enjoyed the first one.

The announcer has said the second ep is on sky 1 at 11pm tomorrow, so I assume this is being shown on Sky 1 as well as Sky Atlantic then?

I was gonna ask about that. I have Virgin so no Sky Atlantic but noticed yesterday that Smash showed up in their TV planner as being repeated on Sky One and there was supposed to be an episode last night.

So, I series linked it - but checked this morning and nothing was recorded and now it's not showing up at all? So, looks like Sky changed their mind about letting non Sky customers watch it as well?

Hear it in the O's

Karen's Bare Foot Karaoke....the highlight for me tonight...

Looking forward to the Derek vs Dev fight, it has to come soon.
Wine throwing I still like....and the note book 'spy', Tom's assistant...what's that all about.
Bored with Julie, and her 'dilemma'....which does look like one.

And I'm guessing there's nothing wrong with the gas...Ivy's thick.

I had a power cut yesterday which broke my Sky box and they can't send an engineer until Friday, even though all three episodes are being shown tonight on Atlantic. But thankfully ep 3 is repeated on Friday. Phew !!

I think Sky made a mistake by showing Ep 1 on Sky1, or maybe as a teaser. Virgin refused to pay the overpriced fee to get Atlantic, so it wouldn't be quite fair.

There are some terrific shows on Atlantic, Mildred Pearce for starters and Blue Bloods. Apart from those two and Smash, I don't really watch it.

I really want to watch this but I don't have the channel it airs on!

Does it only feature the Marilyn Monroe plot lightly though? (sorry have no idea of the concept!)

Its not really doing much about the MM plot tbh. Its more about making the musical. Though they do touch on how niave and needy she was and her fear of ending up mentally ill like her mother as they want the actress who playes her to bring that across in her performance. There are a lot of sub plots about the crew.

I really do dislike Tom's assistant, he is so annoying and all.

Ivy is a bit dim, but I do adore Megan Hilty, and I am still loving this show.

I don't really like Ivy and I keep going back and forth as to whether I like Karen or not, but I'm really enjoying this show. Looking forward to the next show.
I'm interested to hear more about Julie's life than anyone elses right now.

Finally caught Ep 3 - much better than last week

And I'm going to buck the trend - I Love Tom's assistant Julia is Soooo horrible to him and I really don't like her at all, so I am totally rooting for him

I feel like I'm watching a different show to the rest of you. I actively dislike every single character except the male songwriter and Ivy (which is weird, considering I actively DESPISE Megan Hilty as a Broadway actress, and I adore Katharine McPhee). Oh, and Karen's boyfriend is alright.

Karen is obnoxiously entitled and seems to think that despite being a slow-learner and inexperienced, a role in the ensemble is below her.
The producer (Angelica?) is so miserable and dull that I lose part of my soul every time she's on screen.
The redhead jumps back and forth, completely judgmental, absolutely annoying.
The assistant, the black guy, is a backstabbing ****.
The director is an absolute creep.

Ivy seems hardworking and humble, and from what I've seen so far doesn't seem to be sleeping with the director for entirely cynical reasons. Karen's boyfriend seems nice and supportive. The male songwriter... well, he's a non-entity as I can't remember a single thing about him, but he hasn't annoyed me yet.

Me, too for completely the opposite reason (yay to the Broadway actress, boo to the reality star ). Ivy's the only character I vaguely care about.

Its been a bit dull for me so far, not made my mind up whether I'm watching a drama about the making of a musical, or a full on soap opera with songs. After that finale of Rumour Has It, its starting to look like the latter .... which leaves me thinking, didn't Glee get here first ... and with a superior Rumour IMO.

I must say, I watch US pace and although it does dip in quality halfway through the season (still watchable with some great songs), the last 5 episodes or so have been brilliant. I suggest to stick with it for longer.

It isn't just you, but there seems to be a tendancy of late for US pace viewers to post on UK pace threads - noticed it a lot in the Once Upon a Time thread - to tell us about show. Even if it isn't a spoiler, and even if it is pretty general I do find it a bit annoying.

I don't want to know ANYTHING about the show. I want it all to unravel at UK pace.

Don't care so much with Once Upon a Time as I have given up on it. But I would like there to be a place I can come and discuss the UK shows as they air. If the US pace bods are going to take over this thread like they have Once upon a time, then I have nowhere

Great episode last night....But I have to say, I hate Ivy.......the Way Karen is being 'bullied'...but she does seem to have friends now..The 'Intervention'.

Loving the Locations too.

And Adele's tune at the end....stunning.

Ditto.

It's is so annoying, even if it's just the 'it gets worse', 'it gets better' comments.

I don't want to know!!

I'm actually starting to soften with Ivy - I still don't like her but she is so terribly insecure and Derek isn't particularly helping! And the rest of the ensemble agreed with Ivy that Karen wasn't being part of the ensemble - she was standing out too much. She is learning the ropes and I think she and Ivy will be better together from now as Karen has learned 'the rules'.

Found the episode overall a little 'wobbly' but mostly good.
