Derek is a dick, but I can't help but love him, deffo reminds me of a director I know.

Ivy needs more of a backbone, she wants the glory, but I don't think she has all the mentality yet, likewise Karen is still learning the tricks of the trade.

Love seeing Razza Jeffery in this too.

I was surprised they didn't take Karen on to be My Fair Lady and make it a competition instead of her joining the chorus.

Is Tom's assistant pretending to gay or am i totally misreading that?

Loved Karen's solo performance last night........and that Dress.

Plot wise....very light....With Julia and Mike....Tom {on the Piano, I liked} helping the Son...Dev's Politics....Ivy vs Karen, but it all, still hold's my Interest.

Music....I'm Loving....

Glee, a teen thing! I am 29 and love the show. And the reasons it is mainly covers, it is a glee club and like all glee clubs, covers are done! Smash is about Broadway, they have more chances for original music!

Steven Speilberg has put his name to one season shows, I believe Terra Nova was one. A second season had been hoped for but it didn't happen.

A number of shows have a second series ordered in the middle of the seasons before. Glee was quick to be renewed for two seasons!

Personally as a fan of both, I would not compared them to each other. They are two totally different shows, but a number of cast members (Debra Messing sticks out for me) have said if it wasn't Glee, Smash probably would not of happened.

I thought Smash was covering Glee covers ... what with (UK Pace) first Rumour has it and then this week It's a Man's Man's Man's World ... though sadly without the Unwed Mothership Connection on backing vocals.

I know I was expecting Quinn to come out and offer Karen a fake baby bump lol. I know this version of Rumour Has It was about the attitude and dancing thing but I still prefer the Glee mashup. Also I am 28 and watch both.

I like Smash and I agree with Debra that it probably wouldn't have even been considered by TV companies if it wasn't for Glee as it does have that sort of Fame feel about it and I know this will sound stupid but I wish there was more talk of the musical and not the relationships as they bore me a bit (like Glee before anyone says it)

I am a big musical fan but having persisted so far through the UK pace season I have now deleted from my planner. I just can't get into it...the characters are not that interesting, there is no story arc to hold attention beyond the chorus girl vs star conflict and after a strong start even the music is average at best.

I adore Smash. Aside from Mad Men, it's currently my viewing highlight of the week. The cast is tremendous, and the story arc is utterly compelling.

I agree, aside from the musical element (and the fact they've covered a few of the same songs) the two really aren't all that comparable.

I wasn't sure what to make of the show to begin with but the song at the end of the pilot really sold it to me. I'm enjoying it so far, love the whole Broadway element and find the performances, particularly of the original songs, very entertaining.

There have been films made with plots like Smash, but I agree that Glee opened the door for a TV show like Smash, although Jack Davenport doesn't seem to want the shows linked, (allegedly) making mainly negative comments lik

"Glee's set in a high school, it's a karaoke show, they sing only covers, also people sing just because they're feeling so much that they've just 'got to sing' because they're teenagers," Davenport explains.

He reasons: "In our show people sing because it's a world where people sing for a living. So people only sing because they would do in real life. Plus, we're trying to build a real musical here, so each week there is original music."

Of course, he admits he hasn't seen much of Glee, so has no clue about the aspirations of Glee Cub members like Rachel and Kurt, etc.

I've only watched the first three episodes of Smash, but I'm hooked. It's where Glee might have gone with a spin off show for a few years after graduation and it would make sense if that's where the whole idea came from for Smash.

The cast is a great mix and and the use of original music was a risk that is paying off for me so far.

Apart from Julia & Mike's stuff {Was Tom's assistant hiding behind 'that' sofa}...another great episode.

Ivy getting interesting, with the Pills...is there going to be more to that.
Tom still spying...and that apartment Eileen brought/rented...what's that all about.

But still the highlight for me....Karen...and how she does Bar Mitzvah...stunning.

Well I am still hooked. Love the Ivy, Karen feud, the dastardly, or professional? Derek, Tom and his complex love life and his camarderie with his piano playing. Unsure about Eileens role, except for her wine throwing and am not really getting Julias turbulant life with an adoption and now an ex lover. The musics great.

Overall I still want to watch. Though I do have a secret crush on Jack Davenport. Well sometimes, but yes in Smash

Just on the Glee thing, I'm 22 and I hate the show. Smash however, coupled with my love of Theatre is just perfect.

I love the soundtrack too

I'd leave now before you get attacked. You have now ruined the entire show for everyone.

It's Hot in Here

Hope that's the end of 'Mike'.....that plot was going on a bit, and pointless too....but now the Son and Drugs.

Katharine had the best song last night, at the studio..."I Think I Love You"

Tom's assistant still stirring it.
Ivy's Mum, I didn't like....but you could see where Ivy was coming from.

And Eileen and the Bar Owner....I like....and 'fixing' the old Boiler, not Eileen, too.

I am loving it. The songs, The angst, the theatrics. Its great.

I have but one complaint and that is the time spent on the Julia role, her family - adoption, affair etc. Apart from how it affects her writing, which I see as minimal, why is it an integral part of the whole story about the musical. Doesn't make sense and I am beginning to think its just a filler.

I did too........and the whole coup thing wasn't that great...but Karen on the Bed.

Not the best episode by a long way last night....but seeing Meryl Streep's Daughter in it this week, was a plus, and so like her Mum, from way back...Rand vs Rand, came to mind...when the parents were talking about Divorce with her.

Dev is Boring me....big time...who cares about him....what is the Point.
Julia's Son ditto.

Ellis; Can Eileen trust him....the little S-Stirrer.

And Derek's Coat........Dr Who audition or what.
