Missing Recordings on Sony RDR-HXD870

My Sony hard disc recorder often misses an episode that has been set to record using the inbuilt Freeview programme guide. Last night's two episodes of The Bridge on BBC4 didn't record despite a series record being set (next week's programmes are still flagged, so it definitely was set). Is this just the programme start signal not being sent from the transmitter (my signal comes from Winter Hill) or is there likely to be something wrong with my device? If so, what can I do about it? I've noticed that recordings are more likely to be missed around the weekend.

I'm in the Winter Hill area and have the Sony 860 and 890. I have had no problems with single or series recordings, although I haven't been following The Bridge, so cannot comment specifically on that programme. The "5 family" of channels are the only ones that regularly have issues, as whoever programs the codes in hasn't got the hang of it after many months.
I've found with the Sony's that a factory reset can clear odd memory faults, but you'll have to make a note of your recording schedules as they will disappear at reset.

I also have a sony recorder, & only use manual timing to record & avoid missing a programme. I also use Winter Hill.

Even if you've set up a programme to record a series of episodes, doesn't it depend upon the channel transmitting the necessary series link marker at the start of each episode?
