It was notable that, in the run-up to the whole deli business, Brendan was unprecedentedly open with Doug about his feelings for Ste. I'm guessing it was written this way so that Doug making a move on Ste will seem to Brendan like a double betrayal - not only because he had lent Doug the money to start up the business but also because Doug knows exactly how Brendan feels about Ste.

He definitely looks like a drunk ole Grandad whose nodded off to me.

Oh it makes me ache for Brendo. I know it's mostly his fault but .

As much as I love a good coming out story, Doug's might have reached my saturation point. Plus Ste, having shown no interest in him beyond friendship will decide mid argument that Doug is The One. Or at least worthy of a snog. Maybe one day they'll actually get round to writing for Ste as a character than as a plot device.
