Buy a block of Jus Rol and roll to required depth and cut your own.

I usually make square/rectangular ones because I don't own any round cutters. Run a sharp knife round the inside a few mils in, making sure not to cut right through, and cook. The center can then easily be lifted out and discarded or used as a top over the filling.

A single block of pastry should give you at least 16 vol-au-vents.

i am actually doing that now, i have round cutters and will design my own cases. i only thought of making them as i came across the campbells condensed soup. will cut out to the depth and then cook in the oven and then cut out the centre.cheers

Just Rol do them. I get mine from the supermarkets in the frozen section. Iceland do a 30 pack I think, Sainsburys and Asda do 6 pack and a 30 pack I think....its a green box

I'd do little square ones personally, or you will have a lot of wastage

It's hard to waste pastry because you just squidge the off-cuts together and roll again.

Squidge is such a good word, I need it to appear on Great British Menu very soon indeed

i rolled out the just roll pastry and used a cutter to cut out individual pieces, after about 20 minutes in the oven they rise then i take them out, cut out the middle and put in my condensed soup mushroom/chicken. i will still have a look out for the real cases.iceland used to do them, maybe still do but i have not looked for a while

i didn't think it worked too well with puff pastry though - messes up the layers
