Unceremoniously dumped as far as I can see but they were a bit of a waste of space anyway. The marriage proposal couple are the last I remenber but there could have been others because they don't do much.

And they got the scraps after the guest had finished.

They never seemed to say anything, they were just sort of there.

Exactly, my son and I were only discussing this last weekend and reached the same conclusion. I often felt embarrassed for the guests - sidelined and barely acknowledge even with the food! Talk about afterthoughts!

It does seem weird with fewer people, but they always were a bit cringy, wern't they? It used to make me mad when a chef would plate up a portion for one, eg with one poached egg, then leave the rest on the counter

I know, I never got that either - it was all so wrong. Even after the 'guest' was served their heaven or hell dish the other guests barely had the dregs of the wine bottle!
Best decision a programme has made lately.
The company that make it (Cactus TV I think) probably had a budget cut forced on them by the BBC. So one way of cutting expenses would be to cut out the guests (train fares, hotel overnight, looking after etc).
They always seemed a bit superfluous really. I sometimes wish they'd cut out the celebrity guest as well !
