Originally titled "The Wettest County in the World" - Looks bloody good I think.

Set in the Depression-era Franklin County, Virginia, a bootlegging gang is threatened by authorities who want a cut of their profits.
From IMDB.

Not my type of film in terms of genre, but my attention is caught with "Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce".

With those actors in it, I'll probably give it a watch.

Tom Hardy is a pretty damn good actor (although doesn't necessary mean he can save a bad film) and the same can be said about Gary Oldman, so although brilliant actors I wouldn't see a film just for them.

Guy Pearce can be very hit and miss for me, I will admit more hit than miss, he does seem to be in quite a few 2012 releases, so maybe his star is shining.

I know very little about Jessica Chastain.

And Shia LaBeouf has never really struck a cord with me, doesn't stop me from going to see a film with him in it but he can get me second guessing.

The trailer looked good, nothing special and didn't give me goosebumps, but it looked reasonable, and I do like the Bondurant story so I might give a cinema watch.

Impressive cast, good trailer. Any idea on a release date over here? There's no mention of the UK on IMDB.

I'll watch anything with Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy in it. Shia LaBeouf can act when he's given the right material...not really a fan of Guy Pearce. I'd never heard of Jessica Chastain before watching 'The Debt' earlier this year. She's very good....and hot

I don't trust DS reviews they gave Men In Black 4/5 whereas Empire and Total Film have given it a 2.

I watched "Lawless" this morning. It's not my normal genre of film, and if I hadn't had free tickets I probably wouldn't have gone.

However, I enjoyed it more than I had thought I would, despite the fact that it was obvious that the whole film was building up towards one particular act. It was a very bloody violent movie.

Couple of things spoilt it for me - Shia Le Beouf, I wish it wsn't him playing the part of the youngest brother, I can't take him seriously as an adult actor, and I just didn't like him in the part.
Also, it took a while for my ears to acclimatise to the accents/deep voices/mumbling, so I missed a lot of the lines at the beginning, and it seems I'm not alone in that.

Overall, it was a pretty good movie, though you really do have to suspend belief quite a lot of times.

xx

Saw it at the Edinburgh Film fest in June- It's a fine 7/10 movie, and if you like traditional westerns I'd definitely see Lawless, however it's old fashioned and how much you like it may well depend on how much you care for LaBeouf as the hero of the tale. As Empire's review pointed out, the film can't really decide if the Tom Hardy characters knuckle duster antics are heroic or not. It's very violent for a mainstream film, so if that floats yer boat you'll probably be happy.

Saw this at a Curzon preview screening couple of weeks ago. Very enjoyable film - it's a fusion of gangster and western (some are calling it 'wangster'), and does it very well.

They should have made Tom Hardy less swoony though, he's a bit pretty in it...

My thoughts on Lawless here - http://www.thisisafilmblog.com/lawless-2012/

I really enjoyed it, thought the cast was excellent, especially Tom Hardy and Guy Pearce (very yin and yang character wise). I also thought Jessica Chastain gave a nicely understated performances. Would have been nice to see a bit more of Gary Oldman, but his role while quite small is quite pivotal.

It did slightly a bit at times, but I think the story was fundamentally a strong one that was well scripted, and it held together really well. I enjoyed the fact that it plays heavily on the ironic nature of the fate of one of the lead characters especially.

This is probably my favourite film of the year bar The Avengers actually. 9/10
