I agree. Better not watch Lorraine next week because they're on her show.
That will certainly be a fawning interview to upset at least one person on this thread.

I wonder what their (UK police) objectives are to do this documentary at this time.

What are they trying to achieve? To put pressure on the Portuguese police to open the case again?

It's coming up to the anniversary of whatever happened to little Madeleine, so I've no doubt this won't be the last we hear of the McCanns in the next few days.

There were so many legal actions flying around, I'm not surprised DS closed the threads.

The UK media has been so biased towards the McCanns you can't even discuss the subject on DS.

Whether the McCanns are in the programme or not, I just can't imagine it being anything but biased. Everything else I've seen about them on TV has been, so why would this be different?
So you believe that the media should be biased against any parents in a similar position? I would hope they would be sympathetic to anyone losing a child.

Presumably you approve of the regular policy of the British police to arrest any parents of a child who has died and hold them in custody for a day or so?

BBC Scotland are using that slot for what has been a very entertaining series about 60 years of TV in Scotland with clips from BBC, STV and Grampian shows.
BBC Northwest have (yet another) Titanic-linked programme.

Maybe they will show it later.
Entertaining! I watched the first one but don't know who the presenter is but he put me right off the series.

DS usually bin the McCann threads because they invariably descend into the usual tit-for-tat arguments from both "sides" coupled with the usual litany of libellous allegations.

There's no conspiracy as far as DS is concerned - they just got tired of refereeing the slanging matches.
DS allows all sorts of threads and the most disgusting opinions, we are even able to discuss ongoing court cases that should be by law off limits, McCann's are the only taboo subject. No, I do not think there is any conspiracy, DS just knows who they would be dealing with. Someone that trademarks the name of their own kidnapped daughter, is certainly not to be trifled with.

But no sadder than the stories of lots of children who go missing every year without any of the publicity or media sensationalism.
There do tend to be appeals for any missing children and often follow ups on anniversaries. There are still occasional programmes about the missing child from the Moors Murders.

I think a lot of the sympathy is because of the incompetent handling of the investigation by the Portuguese authorities but that is what you get when you go to a Third World country.

This is ridiculous.

2 million pound has been spent to review this case the tax payer is paying it.

The case was REOPENED last year in MAY.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...ann-files.html

So far nothing zilch, nadar. So perhaps the Portugese Police did do their job properly after all.

What happened about the sighting 2 weeks ago....

Poor child is gone. Even if i walked passed her in the street at 8 going on 9 years old there is no way i would recognise her.

This case is sad but there are so many other missing kids out there.

Personally i dont think we will ever find her dead or alive sadly. Poor little baby.

I agree. Anyone that claims to have seen Madeleine is clearly bullshitting. There is no way someone will recognise the child at this age. Even when she was little, the campaign they started inciting adults to spy on children, was disgusting and most of all it only harmed the chances of the child ever be found alive.
There was absolutely no reason for our money to be used to open reopen this case. Portugal is a member of the European Union with a recognised justice system, they closed they case and that they clearly knew what they were doing. This all thing smacks of xenophobia.

Did you read the police files (they are available to read on the net), before you came to that conclusion, or did you just accept what the Tabloids told you?

I'm pretty sure there's a diffrence between losing a child and abandoning a child to go hang out with friends though.

Abandoning ?

You mean, along with her siblings, asleep in her bed in a locked hotel apartment surely ?

I really must look that word Abandon up.

Abandon, Verb, Leave someone who needs or counts on you.

Yeah. I know what abandon means otherwise I wouldn't have used it.
Perhaps you can think of a better word for leaving your children alone and unattended so you can go out with friends?

The parents themselves have claimed the apartment (not in a hotel) was left unlocked.

Just polygraph the damn Parents already and put this one to bed. If they have nothing to hide then there's no reasoning for objections by their part.
It doesn't necessarily make them suspects for doing so, but rules out future lines of investigation and all this tic-for-tat.

^^^ this. I could weep for Madelaine, but have nothing but contempt for the parents.

If Madeleine is still living there is a good chance that she or her school friends would know by now who she is via browsing the Internet.
Could you explain what you mean as I really have no idea why browsing the internet by friends would find her?

The abductor has put photos up on the net of her? Her abductor is letting her out to wander around?

**********************

As for the McCanns having special status - it's more to do with them willing to sue people who say things about them.

Or have a look at the law on leaving children alone:

http://www.nspcc.org.uk/help-and-adv..._wda72908.html

I'll say nothing more as I really can't be bothered.

The sooner the parents come to terms with the most likely fact that their daughter who they left unattended is most likely dead the sooner they can move on...

Kate Mcann said she would take the test then quickly changed her mind.

Carter Ruck run the mccanns legal battles for libel and DS would have been warned by this legal firm

I take it that the documentary was originally titled 'A New Hope' but then people would think Star Wars was on.
