Why cant some foods be cooked in a microwave?

Hunting around last night in the fridge for something to eat I found a Tescos steak and kidney pie and a Birds eye steak and kidney pie.

The cooking instructions on the Tescos pie said to cook it in the oven as the pie 'isnt suitable for microwave cooking'.
However, the Birds eye pie's cooking instructions said "suitable for microwave cooking".

The ingredients were virtually identical apart from more real beef being in the Birds eye pie.

I'm confused - why would 2 almost identical meat pies not both be suitable for microwave cooking?

And why are some foods not suitable for microwave cooking full stop?

I don't know the technical reasons, but i think most most foods taste better reheated in the oven. You can slowly reheat things like pies in the oven, so they retain their crispyness on the outside. Microwaves often reheat just the outside of the food, not cooking it thoroughly enough on the inside, or singe it totally and dry it out!

Pies are fine in the microwave but remember to take the foil off first. As Mich78 said, they just don't get crispy and the texture isn't there.

Just turn them upside down to cook to stop the gravy sinking in and don't over cook.

I tend to go by the rule that items that you would expect to be crispy or crunchy when cooked should not be done in the microwave - pastry products etc particularly.

I usually mostly use the microwave for helping to speed up the thawing of frozen products or to quickly steam vegetables etc.

Microwaved pastry is soggy and horrible.

Most microwaved stuff is horrid, I avoid it at all costs
