Signal Splitting

I have a signal splitter that sends terestrial, sky channel and VCR to 3 other TVs in my house. I wish to add my DVD player in before the signal splitter to watch DVDs playing downstairs on the three other tvs. Is this possible? The connections on the DVD player are a scart connection and RGB connectors. Is it possible to get a RGB to coaxial cable?

I assume that your "splitter" is a UHF aerial distribution amp?

If so the only way you can get your DVD to feed into the loop is if it has a UHF modulator built in, ie it has Aerial IN and OUT sockets on the back like the VCR/Sky box.

If it does not then you are going to have to get a UHF modulator that can plug into the SCART output. Such things are available, try the Maplin website for example.

The SCART and RGB outputs are not suitable for connection to a UHF distribution system, and what do you do with the audio as well? In very basic terms what comes out of the SCART socket is akin to the signal inside the TV after the tuner stage and after it's been demodulated from the radio frequency carrier.

Some of the "early" DVD players had RF output (not sure about RF input), but I have not see any for about 5 years!

A "black box" RF modulator can cost around £50, and it only provides mono sound.

With DVD players costing as little as £39, is there any point in buying a RF modulator - just put a cheap DVD player on each tv. O, at the weekend Woolworths had DVD-tv combi's (14inch) for £39.99. Maybe thats another option.

That definitely sounds the most sensible idea to me if the DVD player doesn't have RF out.

We connect our DVD to the video and watch it round the house that way. Copy protection makes it less than perfect.

Recently, we added the Humax PVR to the system and the DVD connects to the PVR which modulates it into RF. I've not tested it thoroughly but it doesn't seem to be affected by copy protection!
