Nikhil

I'm on the 2mb service and is anyone noticing, at times the internet gets pretty slow. When i do a speed test on adslguide, sometimes i get 2mb, sometimes i get 1.5mb and sometimes 500kb.....anybody gettin similar problems at certain times of the day? or could it be a problem with my line.

Any help appreciated.

I also have 2 Meg internet and always get 2 Meg on the speed tests. If you have your set top box on and are watching channels it could give you slower internet depending on how good your phone line is.

I’m having exactly the same problem especially in the evenings like now. I’ve been complaining to HC for a few weeks now and they always promise to look into it, but their Technical and Customer Service is awful they never called me back. It’s been so bad that I’ve decided to cancel my membership.
It became unbearable, I’m suppose to get 1Mb , but my download speed is about 2Kb/sec with is slower than 56K modem.
TV service is another disaster. I think HC is hopeless.

Maybe I'm just lucky! I couldn't ask for more at 10:00pm.

There must be some issue that's only affecting certain users - my download speed & ping times are no different to usual.

Can I ask why...it's been almost flawless here for the past 3 months?

Same here. Last TV problem I can remember was in August when it was out for an hour one night. I used to get that on Sky every time it would rain!

I'm doing fine here too, connected to the Southwark exchange and I believe Greenwich service centre: generally 900 kbs or more down, 240 or so up, reasonable (though not blazing) ping times and less than 1% packet loss. TV responds quickly with good picture on VOD and many broadcast channels, fair on others. It's be interesting to find out whether these issues are down to the service centre, exchange, individual line, STB or part of the user set up. If people posted more detail about where they are and what equipment they are using we might see a pattern.

this is all very interesting. i've been experiencing increasingly sluggish internet too but palmed it off as problems with wifi... i'm going to spend some time attached via a wire only to see if that helps. i doubt it though as it's really slow when i've got 100% signal and i'm 30 cm away from the access point...

homechoice, sort it out!

I'm not sure which exchange is it, but I live in London NW8.
The packet loss is about 36% and it happens during evening hours only.
The TV is fuzzy and I've stoped watching it as it feels like I can't see properly. VOD looks like bad Mpeg movie.
Sorry, but it's all true. I was very positive when I joined, but now it feels like one big mistake.

Absolutely same problem... and i Live in north London (N!2) and i have the same problem. What i have noticed is the speed of the Broadband is very good during the daytime in weekdays.. so i think it is to do with the load of tele's that are ON in the evening, bringing the internet to its knees. I was told by HC that the TV and Broadband operate in different range and do not interfere with eachother. But i supoose it is not true.

I live in london nw2. I spoke to CS girl last night ( she sounded quite nice!) , and they said that there was a problem on the server that I was on that had been ongoing for a while, and that it was being investigated.
They had a recorded message as well saying that there were technical difficulties. When I just called, the message has gone and says that they had been carrying out some servicing and to reboot your stb.

According to the website they did upgrades on Greenwich, Staples Corner and Croydon last night and a reboot is required.

NW2 - Cricklewood/Staples Corner here too. Hope the upgrade worked, but I'm not holding my breath with Crapchoice!

1k/sec downloads again last night

It wasn't very good in willesden again last night at about midnight.

I was trying to get my us robotics wireless access point to work, with HC last night, took hours and had to reboot pcs and stb about 50 times before I had some success. Does anyone know if you can have two PCs at the same time working with it ok ?

i too am not entirely happy with the internet service. i run a wireless setup (not HC equipment) and have to hard re-boot both the stb and router at least once a day when my connection dies. For any HC reps viewing this forum, my wireless setup is absolutely fine and I have the same problems when I hardwire! Problem is, the techs at HC won't even venture into troubleshooting if you don't have their wireless gear - very frustrating. I'm still not convinced this DHCP lease time business is not to blame.

Any tips from other users, wireless or otherwise, for keeping the connection up would be appreciated.

On the subject of speed - I also have mixed results with my gaming latency, ping times and packet loss being variable to say the least. I'd like to see some sort of response from HC as a lot of users seem to be getting less than they expect from their broadband. I was with Pipex prior to HC and their broadband service was consistently good.

Come on Homechoice, I'm beginning to lose faith.

I've already lost it. I've managed to cancel my membership while still being on contract. Finally after two weeks of battle HC has accepted that their service is bad and I have the right to cancel.

I heard the speed problem at Staples Corner was being resolved by this weekend. Anyone seen an improvement yet?

i have had very slow internet all w/e when using my wireless connection. It is now fine, but I now connecting with an ethernet cable. I think I'm going to have to give up with the wireless, I could only get one pc to work at a time with it for some reason and had to reboot the STB everytime I switched off the PC.
I think its a bit much to charge £150 quid for a wireless setup. im thinking of giving up and going back to my old provider, seeing you can get sky+ now for about a fiver a month. The replay tv for bbc and c4 is rubbish, its only eastenders and property ladder.
