Thoughts On The Top 6 show?
Thought this years top 6 show was great everyone was good, performace of the night for me had to be Hollie singing the climb
Don't know how the results show format will work as last year there was no bottom 3 when Casey was voted off. I would rank the idols as followed based on last nights performaces 1.Hollie 2/3.Joshua and Jessica,Can't decide on who I thought was better. 4.Skylar 5.Phillp 6.Elise I think Elise is done for she is a great singer but she doesn't have the fanbase that the others have she needed a moment last night and didn't get songs she could connect with. |

I have been waiting for Jessica to move me how she did in the first week and tonight she was back with the beautiful vocal of Dance With My Father. In my view it was by some distance the best vocal of the night. Joshua was second with consistent vocals and he always sings and sounds great. I thought Hollie had a great night and liked both of her songs especially The Climb. The other 3 in my view were some way behind.

I think the judges have been told their ongoing criticism of Hollie is back firing in the voting patterns hence the standing ovation tonight and slightly tougher stance on some of the others.

Hollie had the performance of the night for me. Considering all the criticism she has had in recent weeks, she's held herself together so well, and has given some strong performaces. A well over-due standing ovation IMO.

The two J's have been my favourites throughout, and it isn't just about taste, I consider them technically the best singers too. This was a night where they both delivered and put themselves into a different league to the others.
Joshua's second performance was stellar, he is up to the same level as the best of Adam Lambert with a performance like that. It was the most vocally stunning male performance in Idol history for me, along with Adam's controversial Ring Of Fire. There's so much rich tonal quality in his lower range, a throaty voice with lots of control, and there's nothing waffly sounding, like it could be with others who need to start off in an uncomfortably low key so that they can hit the high notes, which come easy to him. He has that blinding dynamic contrast with his effortlessly powerful top end, its accelerative quality, and the cascading run at the end, with studio echo, was stunning. His first performance (Queen) was good too, and, as per usual, he was also the stand out in the group performance (Queen), where Hollie and Phillip merged into the sonic background. Jessica's Dance With My Father was the second best performance, and this for me showcased her at her best. She can do the rasp, sing hard, but the sound is nowhere near as pleasing as this, where she has all this tone and poise. Unlike Hollie, whose voice is tonally hard-edged, Jessica's is only hard-edged enough to provide attack on a note and then she can use a beautifully soft underscoring to fall back on. On top of that she has all the technical ability, to an extremely high level for a schoolgirl. I was always a Luther fan, since the days of his Give Me The Reason album, and he left us this beautiful swan song. Jacob did well with it last year, and his was a very emotional and personal performance, but this was far better. I agreed with J-Lo that it may be the best cover (I'd say even better than Celine Dion's rather mannered version on the tribute album). Skylar delivered 2 solid performances, so did very well on aggregate, but neither of them were anywhere near what the two J's achieved. I'd place her third best. Hollie did well with her second performance, but I really cannot take to the tone of her voice due to that hard-edged, discordant, brassy quality. I think that's why she never seems to emotionally connect with anything or with the audience. It's a voice tone which is only well-suited to hitting big notes, which is all she seems to live for. Phillip and Elise both chose the wrong personal choice songs. He sounds monotonous, as vocally constipated as he can be facially because of his poor range and he needs songs with a strong melody or a catchy groove to compensate. Hers was another busy-busy vocal of a song many people won't know. Both did better with their Queen songs, his a more a cheeky, fun moment, hers for the drama. |

Joshua is not the best male singer ever on American idol at all far from it. He is one of the worst. Jessica is nothing special as proven with being 7th of 7 a few weeks back. Also i am getting really sick of the sympathy card being played by her all the time and saying "i've worked hard all my life", hang on she is 16 not 60 right? And when she said "i'm worried for both of us" when her and Elise were finding out who was in bottom three just looked so fake and playing up for sympathy. Hollie has the better singing voice and in a singing competition that is the most important thing. Phillip can sing and is better than Joshua but he needs to pick a song that is different to every other he has so far done on the show. Skylar surprised me, i usually hate her country songs and shouting/screech combo. But she actually sang most of the songs with little shouting. Hollie has the best vocal with her second song and i hate the song. She did it better than the disney girl though. I wish the judges would stop blacklisting her and give her the credit she deserves. I hate having to listen to such rubbish from the judges and the fake laugh from Who-pez just irritates even more. Elise, picked wrong songs especially at top 6. Something else, did anyone else notice the judges kept looking down at or under the desk like they were given a script to read off comments? |

I disagree. The judges on American idol have been trying to brainwash everyone into thinking Joshua and Jessica are the top 2 right from top 13 but they are not the best two singers. To be a singer you need to be able to sing songs not shout or screech through them like you are doing karaoke all the time.

Forget what the judges say I put a bet on the Jessica, Joshua combination from the 1st week of the live shows. I had not been brain washed but it was quite obvious to me that these two were far superior singers compared to the others. The judges are spot on in their comments.

![]() I find it odd that people seem to think that people who don't shared their views but have been brainwashed by the judges. Different strokes and all that. I personally think Joshua is one of the best singers I've ever heard in a tv talent show by using my own ears, not because JLO says so. |

I picked Joshua out at the bootcamp week as my favourite and nothing that has happened since has made me change my mind.

I must admit I was not impressed when I heard it was Queen week because I couldn't imagine most of them doing the songs justice, and the wrong choice was made by Hollie, Phillip, Jessica and (imo) Skylar, although the judges liked her performance so she got away with it. Joshua picked the perfect song, I didn't predict it and expected a mediocre week from him so was pleasantly surprised, and Elise chose an ok song, but I think she had the best voice for Queen and still think she could have chosen better. |

I actually enjoyed Queen week, usually on these shows the weaknesses are highlighted by singing Queen songs but actually they were all impressive (apart from philip). Skylar, particularly, was really good - prefer her non-country songs.
I don't get the Joshua love at all. Every time the judges give him a standing ovation I just don't buy it. It feels like they've been told that he is the chosen one. |

Phillip and Elise were the bottom two for me. Hollie should not have been there this week when Phillip was as boring as he was.
Elise was the right one to go though. I don't know what it was about her. She was ok as a singer, but maybe wrong song choices and too old in looks and style maybe. It seems like Phillip can come out and sing any old rubbish and still be safe. He is clearly going to win now and I don't really think he deserves to. We could do without another boring guy winner (like Kris, Lee, Scotty, Taylor). I still like Joshua and Jessica the best, but agree that neither are on par with Adam Lambert. I loved him and no-one has ever come close to his talent. |

I loved him and no-one has ever come close to his talent. The only reason Scotty won last year was probably because he was Who-pez's favourite as well as a Country singer. Having said that after Pia was eliminated there were only two decent singers left, Scotty and Lauren. I don't like Country music personally but they are far better singers than Skylar is this year. Last year we had Jacob Lusk as the shouting/screeching banshee and this year it is Joshua. On the same par and so elimination is needed as soon as possible. I am starting to think the reason not so many decent singers are reaching the top 12(or 13) is because of the judges at the moment. Who-pez can't say no to people because she wants everyone to love her so the quality of singers is reduced. Better singers are kicked off and not put through to the top 24 in the first place. Only thing that could save American idol judges would be for Simon Cowell to return or they scrap the judges and bring in new ones who actually have different opinions and will tell the truth not all say the same things and agree with each other all the time. |

The judges are far off with thier comments. If they were spot on then how come Hollie got three weeks constant negative criticism when she was singing fantastic and far better than Joshua and Jessica. Also they clearly were not spot on with thier comments when both of those two ended up in the bottom three in top 7 week 1 and Jessica should have gone as she got the least votes. It is quite obvious to me that there is some bias going on and a desperation from the judges and probably producers being bribed for a final with those two.

Lets hope its goodbye Hollie this week and then America have left the best 4 till last. The two J's are the best singers by a billion miles and the judges are just speaking the obvious.

It's all opinion.
I think Hollie is the best singer, and I think Phillip is the best performer. They would be my top two. Skylar is a good all-rounder. She has a good voice, and good stage presence. Jessica has a good voice, but it is nowhere near as good as the judges make out. Joshua is a great singer, but his voice and style is not my thing. |

Yeah even though everyone on this forum thinks it is set up that way I am fairly sure Philip will win. To be fair he is just another average performer doing his own thing. America seems to like that over vocal greats like Joshua.
