Foraging for food
cake lover

I jut picked some wild garlic from the lane near my house.
Wilted half spinach, and half wild garlic in butter, it was really delicious.

I love free food

Yes I enjoy foraging too. I hope the lane you picked the wild garlic from wasn't too polluted (e.g. by cars)!?

Elderberries are my favourite - I have a great recipe for Elderberry "Rob" .... a kind of cordial, that keeps (you dilute it).
Have made elderflower champagne (trad. recipe). Nettles and chickweed are good (and plentiful). Chickweed grows freely and quite commonly found; rich in vits and mins - nice taste e.g. in salads. Young dandelion leaves are very good for the liver.

You're probably familiar with "Food for free" by Richard Mabey? It's a classic forager's bible - probably published in late 1970's. I guess there are other books, more modern around too. Mabey's book goes into sections, eg. roots, leaves, flowers, terrains where they can be found, descriptions and illustrations.

Wild Garlic leaves are fantastic- we have them in our garden. This year as well as soup and salads, I have made wild garlic and walnut pesto (amazing) and wild garlic frittatta. Nettles make great soup too.
