Believe me I am too; hence the 'wink' after 'off of'. But I knew (hoped) you wouldn't be able to resist correcting.

And I fell for it.
![]() ![]() 'Off of' is a pet hate of mine. It seems to be an accepted replacement for 'from' now.

I use it because I find it funny, and because I'm a sad Scott Mills fanboy. He and his team use it all the time for everything. Like, for example, a caller will introduce themselves as "Helen off of Birmingham", or one of the team will mention, say, Catherine Zeta-Jones, another will not know who she is, and will get told "you know, off of Michael Douglas".

I used to love the Scott Mills show until it moved from the drivetime slot.
It's actually got better since its move to the early afternoon. 24 Years At The Tap End every Monday and Wednesday, and Innuendo Bingo every Tuesday and Thursday. Not to mention Oh! What's Occurring? every day (although that's recently evolved into Real Or No Real?). The only thing that's not better than it was is that Beccy is now a part-timer, due to illness. She's missed when she's not on, although that makes it all the better when she is. |
