I know that a lot of soap stars are derided out there by snobbish viewers who don't appreciate their craft and it got me thinking about genuinely talented stars whose post soap career never kick-started:

- Jenny Platt (Violet Wilson, CS). She was a decent character (admitedly ruined by an ill-advised reappearance last year) played by a great actress. However, since Violet fled the cobbles, Jenny Platt has all but vanished from TV screens- with the exception of a guest appearance on Casualty last year.

- Tracy Shaw (Maxine Peacock, CS). Who can forget poor Maxine's violent demise at the hands of Tricky Dicky? Since then we've seen little of Shaw.

- Bruce Jones (Les Battersby, CS). Jones was sacked by producers back in 2007 for unruly behaviour and it seems that it's affected his fortune ever since. In 2010 he was rumoured to have landed a role in a new ITV sitcom but that never materialised. A real comedown for a guy who played the lead in a Ken Roach film.

- Letitia Dean (Sharon Watts, EE). She's one of soapland's most recognised faces and is due to make a blazing comeback this summer but has Dean done much in the last 5-6 years?

- Ben Freeman (Scott Windsor, ED). Whatever happened to him?

Yes, I would argue that they were and was quite surprised that more wasn't seen of them.

Georgia Taylor (Toyah Battersby) no offence to Casualty since I used to watch it when Georgia's Ruth character was around but I think she deserves much better than the show every ex soap actor goes on. She was so good especially during Ruth's suicide and bipolar storyline.

I think that Georgia Taylor has actually done pretty well for herself since leaving the cobbles. She's featured in two movies (The History Boys and The Bank Job) and has had a variety of other roles on TV- Lilies, New Street Law, Life on Mars, Lewis and Blackpool. Hopefully now that she's left Casualty she'll start to get more leading roles as she's more than capable of carrying them off.

I think the ones mentioned above , to me, the actors were just playing themselves.
Not much acting involved, so although good in the part they are known for....... it's a bit like watching the same character when carried on to another role in other programmes.

Apart from Georgia who i think is very talented

Wasn't he accused of rape?

Also
Adele Silver - though to be fair, she wasn't that great. Just I think acted herself..

Freeman was found not guilty although it appears that it did his career damage.

Adele Silva is an atrocious actress- cringeworthy. Her return to Emmerdale last year was catastrophic.

Yeah just read the title to the thread 'talented' she was most certainly NOT talented, so I apologise there. Isn't there a story of how she went to Hollywood to find fame only ended up working in a shop?

She was a dog walker as far as I can remember.

Ben Freeman married a Hollyoaks actress. (she played posh Jess for about 2 years from 2005) Their wedding cake was featured on a cake decorating show called Chooccwocckydoodah ... something like that!

They met doing a stage musical.

I would think a lot of ex-soap actors do theatre, but because few people go to the theatre (compared to watching telly) most people assume they don't work at all.

Both Ben Freeman and Luke Tittensor were axed by Emmerdale for stupid behaviour

Whatever happened to Glenn Lamont who played Ritchie Carter in Emmerdale

She has three projects (that we know off) coming up in the coming months.

- Sky's Bedlam series 2

- ITV's new supernatural drama Switch

-BBC Three's True Love

She is doing very well for herself actually.

And as for Letitia Dean, she has been quite successful in the theatre part of the acting world. She did a long stint in Calender Girls and obviously she does Panto regularly, which must pay her very well.

I remember him having a very brief stint on Corrie years back as a boyfriend of Tracy's but apart from that he seems to have vanished into the abyss. Lucien Laviscount (who played Sophie's boyfriend Ben on Corrie) always reminded me of him!

The actor who played Jez Quigley in Corrie was very good, but hasn't done much lately.

Jez aka Lee Boardman played a major role in the two 'Rome' series.

That was very nice Timon

He has also done loads of other things

Since The Bill was axed, there's nowhere for them to go.

Always suprises me how quick a lot of soap stars are to fling a well paid career down the loo when they think the grass is greener elsewhere.

haha yh, now they have to rely on being a sick patient in casualty or holby city
they could also do a natalie cassidy and have a yoyo diet take a dvd, then go on big brother/im a celeb
