Can anyone recommend a very large screen - HD - non-Freeview TV?

I was looking at the Samsung PS60E530, and was impressed, but it has Freeview, and I'm looking for one without.

Here you go.
I think it would be cheaper to get a tuner included and just ignore the fact that it's there....i never use the inbuilt monitors in mine...Why is it so important for it to have none?

As I do with my TVs connected to Sky HD boxes as the FV PQ is so bad.

C'mon OP - enlighten us.

I would have thought Freeview is mandatory now? - it's long past the time of analogue only sets.

Assuming you can manage to find a monitor at the size you want, it will be a LOT more expensive - just buy a TV and don't use the tuner.

Freeview HD is OK, Freeview SD is atrocious.

I didn't and if your signal strength is good I don't imagine you will either.

I'm guessing here, but what you might save on buying a 'standard' TV would pay for a TV licence

For how many years?

Even without any fee increases, 10 licences is £1,450, which I'd be paying for channels I can't receive.

If you're not actually using the TV to watch live TV transmissions then you don't need a TV license, irrespective of whether or not the TV is capable of receiving live transmissions (providing you're not using another device to receive live TV of course).

With that being the case, I can't see why it matters if it has a Freeview tuner?

I know that, but they aren't averse to a bit of "installing" themselves.

Looking at the prices, maybe I'd be better with a HD projector?

They certainly couldn't "install" one of them.

BluRays and DVDs (of which I have A LOT), plus connecting my Laptop to it.

We used to have DVD combi units that were used to show training videos 'deactivated' at work by the company that supplied them, as we didn't have TV licenses at any of our sites.

In reality all they did was to open them up and remove the aerial socket from the PCB. Not ideal by any means, but it served its purpose.

No Sky, Virgin etc.

I watch Iplayer on my computer, but only catch-up, not live.

Not sure I'd want to do that, on a brand new, £1,000 TV.

Also, wouldn't disabling Freeview in that way, interfere with the other functions?

Well its still dodgy watching it on catch up, as that means you have a device that can stream it live.

What will happen if I don't have a TV licence?

It is a criminal offence to watch 'live' television without a TV licence or to possess or control a device which you know or reasonably believe will be used to watch 'live' TV without a TV licence. You could be prosecuted and fined up to £1000 (plus be ordered to pay legal costs) for these offences.

Read the bit you quoted again. It actually says the opposite of what you think it does.
