Am I the only one who REALLY doesn't like Rowetta?

Sorry guys, but I find her voice monotonus and I'd probably kill myself before I listened to an entire album of hers, if she ever gets one out. All this AAAAAAAAAAAA and OOOOOOOOOOOO gets a bit too much for me, especially when it's as flat as she makes it sound.
And there you have all the celebrities and other wannabes saying "Ah Rowetta is great... blah blah". I feel they like the fact she's mad and not the way she sings. Yeah ok, she's got a loud voice. So what? I can scream also. This doesn't make me a singer!

I can see why she made a good backing singer , her voice is very good for 30% of any song she sings

that's it.... Cleo Lane indeed. I've been thinking who she reminds me of, thanks penny.

I said here over the weekend I thought last saturday's overall Rowetta presentation was fantastic. But after seeing it again on sunday I'm afraid I've to say that she's just too loud for me after all & realised not my kind of singer and songs. In fact I think Cleo's voice, if I remember it still, has better melodic sound to it, deep but jazzy.

I think Rowetta has a fabulous voice, but she does sometimes have a tendancy to oversing, and I didn't like her performance last Saturday.

Can't understand why sounding like Cleo Lane is a bad thing though

I'm not saying Rowetta can't sing - she obviously can or she wouldn't be in the competition and wouldn't of had a career through it. but i don't see the fancination, she is definetly not the best and is just too much. She should stay as a backing singer.

There's something about her that just makes me want to smack her in the mouth. Probably a little extreme, but there you go...

As a musician, I find it very hard to relate the Rowetta of the X Factor to the backing artist on "Step On" by the happy mondays. I just don't hear any emotion in her when she sings. Perhaps this is down to song choice though...

Funnily enough I've thought about the Cleo Laine thing for a few weeks.

I have to be honest that I did not like Rowetta until she sang "You Don't Have to Say you Love Me" on the first live show, when I thought she was brilliant - but I have been disappointed with her since then. Week 2 was nothing but a watered down version of The Chimes (Pauline Henry) take on the U2 song from a few years ago, and for me she totally oversang "Over The Rainbow" - it's a simple song, it doesn't need the affectations.

So I think my first impression of Rowetta was the right one.

The thing is I don't actually have a favourite yet - I liked Tabby the first 2 weeks, but I thought he was poor on Saturday. Cassie is a good singer (nervous on Saturday) but I think they are giving her poor song choices - it all seems very predictable. She's ayoung girl - give her a young girl's song - something by Christina eg "the Voice Within". Steve is very good, G4 are fabulous singers but as someone on another thread said, Louis is insulting them and us with the song choices - get them to sing "Nessun Dorma" or "Nella Fantasie" and they would blow the roof off. Don't rate Souls Without Voices at all.

So I have no idea who I favour.

I think the most consistent people on the show are Simon and Kate.

S.

Rowetta is talented, but she hasn't made me tingle yet. I find her voice more jazz orientated too.

Yeah - I feel the same. Technically, she can sing, but her voice does nothing for me (I think she overdoes far to much, especially when singing simple songs, like 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow').

However, I only had a mild dislike for her until her 'I'm through aren't I' comment in the first week of the live shows. I am now hovering somewhere just below intense dislike

She is so used to shouting being a backing singer and trying to get noticed she over does it, she can sing but she should be taught to do it quieter but sorry Ro fans her voice does nothing for me it makes me cover my ears and hide

I cant stand the woman, its not just the voice thats awful but she is just too much to bare - shes loud, over the top and totally false. She knows exactly how to play simon and the game and she aint fooling me. i just hope to god she dont win - not that she'l make it if she does win. Im totally sick to the back teeth of seeing her ugly mug on the front of the papers and all the stories showing what a crude vile person she really is - wake up people - what on earth is there to think is so wonderful???

I don't like Rowetta either (too much volume, not enough finesse etc.), so you are not alone.

I can't stand her - and all her pathetic pleading "vote for me, vote for me" etc.

Have loved Rowetta from the beginning but the last two weeks have left me feeling disapointed. I felt that the choir drowned out her voice on I Still Havent Found What Im Looking For and she did tend to oversing on Somewhere Over The Rainbow. I think she does sound like a combination of Cleo Laine and Shirley Bassey too. Still liking her though.

I really like her.I think she has a great voice.

But it really annoys me when people say really stupid things like "I'd rather kill myself than listen to a Rowetta album" because if she did release an album, who would be forcing this person to listen to it

It was just a figure of speech, to indicate how boring I find her and how impossible it'd be for me to listen to at least 10 songs in a row from THAT voice with OOOOOOOOOs and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaas.

I'm definitely not going to kill myself. I'm saving me at least until the end of X factor. I have to vote for the boys you see

And there would be no point if they are dead anyway.

Calm yourself. What I meant was that halfway through listening to an album by her, I'd have had enough.

That is just your opinion though. I mean, they can all sing, otherwise they wouldn't have got through. I personally can't stand G4. But thats cos they don't appeal to me. I find them boring,as you do Rowetta.

I'm not gonna start arguing cos thats silly, everyones intitled to their own opinion.

Of course it's just my opinion. Isn't this the whole point of forums? I'm not about to embark on any anti-Rowetta campaign. I just find her voice flat and tiring to listen to. G4 at least have more "colour" and make listening to a song a lot more interesting.

I guess all this is a matter of taste though..

Didn't start this thread to argue, so please let's not get to that

I'm sorry if it sounded like I was snapping, wasn't looking for an argument.Your right it is a matter of taste and I hate the type of music G4 sing.I think G4 sound exactly the same each week.Plus I love Oasis,so I had my expectations high

And it would be boring if everyone thought the same.

I also am not so keen on Rowetta. Of course I acknowledge that she can sing, she has an incredibly powerful voice, but it's just a little 'hard' for my taste.

If she could vary her tone and volume a little I might change my mind.
