new restaurants, maybe
our city is going to have a new shopping centre built and these new restaurants may be coming here, Chiquito, Frankie and Benny’s and Prezzo. i have never heard of them, but from the propaganda our council is putting out they sound like snob places, for people with plenty of money.
If so, then I have no idea why they would want to come here, where Hereford have got some of the lowest wages in the UK. Have any one here heard of them, I suppose someone must. also what happened to the good old fish and chip cafe, or a greasy joe sort of thing? |

Ooh Frankie and Benny's - lucky! I love Frankie and Benny's food. I've heard of Prezzo but never eaten there unfortunately.

They are fairly bog standard middle of the road chains, often found in big entertainment complexes where there are cinemas etc.

Frankie and Benny 2 breakfasts for £10 and unlimited tea or coffee when you buy the first cup is great. Not snobby in the slightest.

Prezzo is not bad. Like Pizza Express with a more extensive menu. Can't recall if it was pricey or not. I don't think I was picking up the bill when I went.

Frankie and Benny's is hardly posh! Chiquito is bog standard, chain Mexican fare and I've never heard of the other. The council is probably just trying to big up their development, when realistically all they have done is attract some chain restaurants that most towns have.

Prezzo is a middling Italian, OK if you're not adventurous.
Frankie & Benny's styles itself as an American diner, and many people would rather die than eat there. I went in one once (it was very bad weather and I was in a very naff town), it was quite amusing. They offer a competently cooked array of fats, carbohydrates and cheap protein. I suspect I was the only person in there with a postgraduate degree. ![]() (And now there'll be loads of posts slagging me off! Please notice the emoticons!) |

Chiquitos is BS crap Mexican food, if you can call it that!! I make better Mexican food at home(from my husbands tuition) and I am not Mexican, but I follow recipes in Mexican cookbooks and online!!! If my husband was alive today and he WAS Mexican/American, with a very tempestuous, firey personality and he went to Chiquitos, he would set off a round of machine gun fire in absolute total disgust and blast away the place!!!
The Brits havent got a clue about Mexican food!!! With Frankie & Bennys, that is in NO WAY a New York Diner and F & Bs dont even originate from NYC, like it says in their menus!! A waiter, my late husband and I spoke to once at the F & Bs in Castlepoint, Bournemouth told us that the so-called "information" in the menus about F & Bs originating in NYC is a pack of lies just to get customers!! F & Bs havent even sniffed NYC!!! Prezzo and Zizzi Italian Restaurants dont even serve authentic Italian food, unlike Olive Garden in the USA, either!!! Three classic examples in this country of businesses contravening Trade Descriptions!!! ![]()

Perhaps the council is trying to attract people from close to Hereford, who are not on low wages instead of them going to Leominster, for example. |

We have all 3 places here...in fact we have 3 Frankie and Benny's! and where I live is far from posh.
The food all 3 serve is nothing special IMHO. |

Frankie and Benny's isn't posh and to be honest, it's about time Hereford had some decent restaurants to go to because there's bugger all else there.
My wifes from Tupsley by the way

There's a Frankie and Benny's in Kidderminster my other half went to and wasn't over impressed. They are not snob places although they are a step up from MaccyD's for example.
Perhaps the council is trying to attract people from close to Hereford, who are not on low wages instead of them going to Leominster, for example. what they are trying to do is stop people going to other towns and cities to do their shopping, which is why they want to build a new shopping centre. they got this idea that sticking another supermarket even if it is a up market one, a Debenams and a few restaurants will keep people here and bring more people into the city. I doubt it will to be honest, people will still go to other cities because they will still have more. |

My wifes from Tupsley by the way ![]() i had a look at the web sites for these places and to be honest i doubt i would step foot in one of them. We got enough foreign restaurants as it is here and yet they want to bring more in. |

Agree with everything you say, except that I don't think Olive Garden in the States is particularly "authentic" either.

Your council thinks these places sound "posh"? Seriously? What low aspirations your local authority has.
![]() I think that's about the extent of it! Noise, do you live in a barn in the middle of nowhere? Because that's the only way you wouldn't have heard of any of these places![]() As for bemoaning the loss of greasy spoons, they are on par with frankie and benny's, fatty low grade meat, cooked in even more fat, cooked for a particular demographic. Baulk! |

There are some right snobs in this thread!
![]() I've never tried Chiquito's, but I've ate at a Prezzo and at Frankie and Benny's. I preferred Prezzo's but didn't think F&B's was that bad. It's not haute cuisine, but then they don't claim to be. It's middle of the road fare. To the people sneering at these restaurants, where do you eat out? |

I have nothing against chains, but the ones mentioned in this thread are pretty grim. Prezzo is slightly more passable. The chains that I think are decent are wagammama, strada and Byron. Other than that, I prefer to support independent restaurants and the food quality is usually infinitely better.
