They get recycled into other plastic products such as laptop cases. Do not confuse recycling the plastic with re-using the bags.

Not true. There is a fixed time per delivery plus a fixed time per tray. And as it stands the delivery schedule is easily achieved and can usually be bettered which is why you often see a Tesco van parked up at a burger van or round the corner with the driver reading a paper and enjoying a coffee.

I've never had a problem with the Tesco delivery drivers, very helpful and will bring crates into the kitchen. Mine is delivered without bags and they have never complained.

Substitutions on the other hand! I don't know what planet the 'pickers' are on, but really.

I don't even trust Tesco to recycle them into bin bags! No more Tesco for me. Morons drive the vans.
How rude.

I use my bags as bin liners.

Tesco always send me most of my stuff bag-less regardless of what I say.

I did once make a note for picker on every item saying "please put this item in a bag" and still half the shopping came flopping about in the back of the van

I only use Tesco if they have a really good offer on...

I'm the exact opposite - I don't want carrier bags but they insist on sending them, and often tying the tops so you have to break the bags to get into them and can't re-use them.

I have stubbornly emptied the bags in front of them before and returned them to the driver, who was not impressed, but I did say I wanted no carrier bags, and was told that some items have to be bagged (frozen stuff, cleaning products) so you will always get at least some carrier bags. Seems that's not the case then.

As I have already pointed out the bags are not re-used, the plastic in them is recycled. You would not want to put fresh fruit in a bag that had previously been used to carry bleach or uncooked meat for example.

I once ordered some condoms with my tesco delivery because I thought it would be less embarrassing. I think I ordered the mates variety pack. Anyway, the driver turned up at my door and he had a really stupid grin on his face. You can imagine the only substitution on the entire list was the bloody condoms! He got this packet of normal ones out and said 'we didn't have the ones you ordered, so are these ok?'. He really made a point of showing them to me as well. It was pretty mortifying at the time.

With someone's ice-cream order inside melting. Or do they have an ice-box inside for that stuff?

I've always found Tesco drivers really nice. They bring my stuff in and help unpack the crate(s), so I can check everything is there. I only shop online so maybe there's a difference idk.

I've also got free stuff by being the last delivery of an evening and shopping that's dropped from people before me gets added to mine. The drivers just wink and tell me they saw nothing.

If I kept the bags, I would certainly re-use them, unless there has actually been a leak in the bag, which is rare. The point is, by delivering the shopping with unwanted carrier bags, they are not giving you the option to be green - it is better to re-use and recycle after many uses than to recycle after one use, but no bags is best of all.

My Tesco driver once had a go at me for not being in during a different slot from the one I'd booked. He apparently didn't fancy coming round during the one I booked, so tried delivering during a different slot instead and got really shirty with me for still being at work two hours before the slot I'd booked

When I used to get my shopping delivered from Tesco, the driver always said he was not insured to go into customers premises.

I've had some crazy substitutions, the worst one was probably vegetarian lasagne and they sent me beef lasagne instead. I wouldn't use Tesco again, I had a hell of a time with them. Every week the order was wrong, and not just a bit wrong either - literally half the order would be missing every week. I then had to spend ages on the phone every week waiting for their customer service people and then listing each item off the receipt that was missing from the delivery one my one. The thing that really pissed me off was that I then had to go back online and reorder the missing items and pay a second delivery charge. When I suggested to them that I shouldn't have to pay again for their mistake they wouldn't even address my complaint, which is what finally prompted me to dump Tesco and get my shopping elsewhere. Also, once I'd got a reputation for complaining, rather than trying to get it right they'd just send joke substitutions like pile cream

So the advert is a blatant lie then.

From reading the posts it seems you got 'a bad 'un'. Complain to Tesco, they can give his job to someone more deserving

I'm guessing it's just luck of the draw with drivers/pickers and Tesco. I have always had really helpful drivers who take the carrier bags back there and then. They always check to see if I am happy with the substitutions and it is funny to see their reaction to some of the things that have been delivered.

The most bizarre one recently, was when I ordered a bottle of soy sauce and received a packet of soya flake cereal Not even close!!! The driver had a good laugh at that one too.

That might be correct with regards to Tesco's. However my source is Sainsbury's. He's a trusted source and he informs me that six minutes is correct with respect to Sainsbury's.

There is a chiller section and a freezer section in the van.

All this moaning about on-line gorcery shopping, why on earth don't you just go tot he shop and get your own shopping, surely it is a better idea, you get what you want and not what someone else think you should have.

Country gone to pot when people can't be bothered to do their own shopping

I can understand if someone is disabled and find it difficult to get out or maybe live out of town, but some people lives on the supermarket door step.

the worse thing that ever happened was this online grocery shopping, apart from self scan.

They have to take my shopping up two flights of spiral stairs to get to my flat, i reuse the bags and it's easier with bags.

I generally don't get bags when I get them delivered. Usually around 2 crates and the guy has to drag his trolley up 3 floors. He empties the boxes aswell.

Got a full 12 pack of eggs for free as one was broken.

I occasionally attempt this, in the spirit of adventure and not being fazed by all this 'modern' stuff.

It's always crazily embarrassing, but rather funny. I often have two staff in attendance.

One's there to rejig the machine after I've baffled it.

The other comes to check I am actually over 18.

Brilliant saving of store resources, but sometimes it's diverting.

I live 25 miles from my nearest supermarket. It's cheaper do do an online shop that to drive there.

Tesco deliver to me without bags and I transfer everything into my bags for life. I have never had a problem with either the delivery or replacement items.
The drivers are really nice even with my Alsation trying to lick them to death

My friends use ASDA and they are not impressed by their service.

I've never had trouble with the actual delivery blokes. They bring the plastic boxes to the door, I unload them (I do the "with bags" option) behind me into the hall double quick and then sign their electronic thing. It all take about 3 or 4 minutes.

Everything I get seems to end up in the bags except bigger stuff like bottles of coke, kitchen rolls etc. which are just in the crates loose.

It can't be much of a job though, as all the drivers seem to change very often. In 7-ish years of getting home delivery (about every 3 weeks) I have had the same driver on only 2 occasions! On the face of it, it sounds a nice job - driving around in a little van and chatting to people as you unload. But these guys are obviously treated very poorly (which seems to be a common problem these days, especially with bigger employers).
