Basically I'm reviewing the album for my English coursework. It'd be great to get some opinions from here on her album, standout tracks, terrible tracks, similar sounding artists and so on. Basically just what you guys think of the albums songs!

It'd be great if you could help!

Cheers,

Jordan.

Hey this was a review I done a while ago

Album Title: Cinderella's Eyes, is a name that represents Nicola's transformation to a solo artist, from the ugly duckling, to the beautiful swan, and it fits the theme: empowering & beautiful upbeat lyrics

Beat of My Drum - “Blow your trumpet like you do, I put on my marchin' boots, I know we can work it out, let's step into the groove" Reminds me The Ting Tings mixed with M.I.A. but Nicola puts her own quirky stamp on it. It’s a quick paced, bratty fun pop song. 5/5

Lucky Day - “Could it be my, could it be my, could it be my, my lucky day" really gives me Kylie Minogue vibes, as does the song as a whole. Its a fun, catchy pop song, much like Beat of My Drum, but in a more endearing way, and I feel it would have made a better first single, although I feel they both are growers, they need a few listens. 4.5/5

Yo-Yo - Feels like one of the more emotional and personal ballads, about the ups and downs of a recent relationship that she has yet to move on from. “All the things you’re saying, I’m hangin on your every word” 4/5

Cinderella’s Eyes - Title track, one of my faves. Love the fairy tale wordplay. The song has a very 80‘s electropop sound. I love the attitude Nicola conveys in the song’s self-empowerment theme. “No you can’t change the done, its in the past, so you buckle your boots and don’t look back” 4.5/5

Porcelain Heart - I love the opening, how it is focused on her vocals, which are great on the song. It has a nice pulsating beat throughout that accumulates in a fiery breakdown. “You shot her down, don’t do that to me, bang bang bang, just because you can can can” 4/5

i - Another of my favorites on the album, and another pop ballad that you can feel is personal to Nicola, she seems so genuine while singing it. It feels like a Lily Allen track at times, which I love. “I don’t like nasty words they hurt me like you’d never know” 5/5

Everybody’s Got to Learn Sometime - A cover song, originally by sung by The Korgis in 1980, the beats and synths of the song feel very 80s, which I love. Other than that..it’s not my fave track on the album, it is a little bland, but Nicola has lovely vocals on it and did the cover justice. 3.5/5

Say It Out Loud - This song sounds like it could be a Girls Aloud single. It feels very uplifting, yet bittersweet. “the only medication for a heart that knows its breaking, is to get it out now, say it out loud” 4/5

Gladiator - I love the chorus, it is very catchy and fierce. It’s an empowering pop song, in which Nicola is showing that she is tough and ready for her haters. “I’m shooting bullets from my chest, I’m superwoman bitches” 3/5

Fish Out of Water - Mid-tempo track, feels like sluggish filler to me. It is a very somber pop song..and one of my least faves on the album. Boring. “All those lovely words that turn into frustrating tears” No lovely words for this one. 2.5/5

Take a Bite - Another effervescent song where she is singing to her haters and even taunting them and calling them out. The opening and the beat remind me of The Sound of the Underground by Girls Aloud. “Called me a rude ginger bitch and say I bought bigger tits, they're gonna eat all their words, they're talking absolute shit” 3.5/5

Sticks & Stones - A bittersweet pop ballad and a pleasant, yet melancholy way to end the album. It is a very topical song, with all the recent press focused on bullying, the lyrics are very poignant “Wouldn’t it be wrong if we’re all the same? Don’t surrender, don’t you change” 4.5/5

To sum things up, I love the album overall. I love one of the B-Sides, Dance in the Rain, and I feel it would have fit better on the album than say..Fish Out of Water, which seems like a filler track, but besides that.. I love the 80‘s electropop sound and how it is so different from most other albums I’ve heard this year. It is feisty, quirky, and it is not overly long or too short, its just right and Nicola has really left a good impression on me, especially since I had never even heard her name until this year. The album really shows off her vocals and her personality. She has always been a nameless irrelevant girl in the background of Girls Aloud, like a random chick #2 from the Pussycat Dolls, but from now on to me she will be Nicola Roberts, the girl with the best solo album from Girls Aloud.

For me "Gladiator", "Take A Bite" and "sticks + stones" are the stand outs. Gladiator is such a strong dance track. Take A Bite has really interesting beats. And Sticks and Stones is dark in an inocent way. One song im not to keen on is YoYo. I just dont think it sounds as fresh as the others do.
