Need To Clean My Cat's Bottom - Help!

Hi, my 12 yr old cat has dried, crusty poo round her bum, and doesn't appear able to clean it herself. It's about 8 days since I noticed it, I'd been hoping she would eventually get herself clean but I'm a bit worried now, She seems fine otherwise - she's eating & drinking normally, and has had poos & wee'd ok, and is usually her mad self - she's very active for her age and still has a mad half hour regularly (usually when I'm trying to get to sleep!). Does anyone have any suggestions re cleaning her bottom - are there any wipes you can buy to use, for instance? If anybody's had a similar problem please help!

Baby wipes (Johnsons) tend to do the trick, worked fine with my cat

Is she too fat to clean herself? If so, that needs addressing. In the meantime it depends how ameanable she is. If it's in her fur you can probably comb quite a bit of it out - use a fine-tooth metal comb. The rest, and any on her skin, I'd use a cloth wrung out in warm water. Wipes taste horrible to me, of course I have no idea how they taste to a cat but I don't want to do anything that might discourage her from keeping herself clean.

When my cat was alive i found putting her in the bath did the trick, especially when she was older and was getting lazy. She did not like it at first but got used to it, lasted until she was 22.

personally i'd go for huggies wipes - across the family we've used used pampers & johnsons and they've either stung us (pampers) or the babies have ended up with very sore behinds from use (johnsons)

cotton wool in warm salt water is probably the cheapest option, i do this for both the dogs and rabbits if they need it.
holding a moist ball on there, or putting it under them when they're sat for a while helps to soften the "deposits" which can then be wiped off with a further few well wrung out balls or pads.

it of course depends what the cat will tolerate, i've (thankfully) never has to bother with a puss' button before!

Hello again and thank you for your advice. Mission accomplished now, I used an old, soft facecloth wrung out with warm water and that did the trick. The hardest part was getting puss to keep still, my boyfriend had to come and hold her and she put up one hell of a fight - went and sulked for about 10 minutes and then re-emerged, I was soon forgiven once some Dreamies had been produced! I have told Amber her bum will be checked daily from now on tho
