well, he has said that he wants to take things further with this album... the rocky stuff more rocky, soulful stuff more soulful, funky stuff more funky, etc. - I can see this collaboration (especially with the sons involved) as going in any of these directions

Interesting disc guys re collabs, I don't see Matt going straight down any chosen music route at all, just merely taking pieces from various sections n disc etc. as we know not everything will make the grade, be the sound he or the label are happy with.......I think it's good to work with others, diff ideas etc

I know exactly where you are coming from. We really want Matt to stand up and say 'Hey!! This is me'. I actually think lessons have been learnt from letters (though I love it but prefer the live arrangements ect) but won't say a word against it!! Let's face it - it could have been a whole pile of very poppy X Factor songs he was handed and told to get on with it. There are songs on there I rank up with my very all time faves one of those being the track letters. And some I simply just like. I'm pretty sure Matt knows he has to have more essence of 'Matt'. I think the RC just played it safe.

Interesting discussion re who he is working with ..I agree with mee that the next album he has to really make a statement ..but maybe he is just trying things out at the moment and with music I don't think you can afford to stand still or not explore other avenues
Maybe he is working on something for them rather than the other way round

Interesting discussion going on about the direction of Matt's next album. I'm not sure R &B is really Matt's thing but that's one of the biggest selling genres in the USA. I suppose he needs to experiment with different styles to see what he's comfortable with and what he thinks his fans will like. I'm still desperate for him to create his own sound and to write/sing/produce his own Uninvited. His second album needs to stand out and not be the same as Letters, much as I love it. I'm so happy though that he's been given this opportunity to experiment.
