Worst newspaper?

Which one of the 'big' newspapers do you dislike the most? I ask because of the Samantha Brick thing, I was reading round the Daily Mail website and it's horrifying! Awful stuff.

Is there one of the main papers you can't stand?

I haven't included the Sunday ones because, obviously, it's just the same paper with "Sunday" in the title.

I think you need to add a poll - remember to put in all the tabs & broadsheets from all days (and big regionals like the Daily Record).

I think I can guess who will be the top 2.

This is what I dont understand. Why read it if its 'horrifying and awful' ? Why go to the site, why continue reading, why come here to slag it off ?

I personally like the Mail. I go online in my lunch hour to read the showbiz gossip. I buy it on the weekend as it contains good crosswords, receipes and Liz Jones (who I love to hate).

I get sick of people slagging it off. If you dont like it, dont read it.

I only read it for the Samantha Brick thing, but I only read 5 of the racist/ageist/everythingist stories littered all over the place before I clicked off. The Samantha Brick article was the first time I'd ever read the Mail website. I've heard nothing good about it, in real life or on DS.

Exactly it needs to be a multiple poll

I have no idea, because i wouldnt read a bad newspaper.

When I started commuting to the London and bought a paper, I experimented a little with a few different ones. But I found the one I like the most, and have stuck with it loyally. So, I have no idea what the others are like now.

Inevitably, the 'worst' two papers will also be the biggest selling two papers. I mean it's almost as if they're being read by people who claim to hate them?

I read the Mail online at work and every day without fail there's a spelling or typing mistake in it! I don't think it's very well proof read.

It's a bit more complicated now, which is why the Express won't feature as highly as the Sun or the Mail.

Web presence/clicks. Express Newspapers completely failed to 'get' the web and so are way behind the curve now. Plus they just don't get taken seriously. Whereas the Mail are now basically getting more clout from online, and getting it globally.

The only one I read in hard copy (unless someone has left something lying around and i'm bored) is the Metro as I get it free on the bus in.

There's usually a thread with a link to a DM story created every day on here.

The comments are great on the DM website (Mail Online) as you can tell it's not their normal paper readership and will often show a more liberal side which sometimes contradicts the article they are commenting on. It's free to register and to leave comments, so I always imagine it's The Guardian readers posting on the DM website.

I remember a recent one on there about a fashion designer and his porn star boyfriend 'romping' on a beach in their speedoes.

Possibly DM were a bit overextending themselves on their usual 'have your cake and eat it' titillation/outrage modus operandi as most of the comments were hugely supportive and occasionally lusty from straight women around the world.

(Harry Louis probably wondered why he was getting so many online hits that day too!

Well possibly, but I was thinking just of the hard copy, not web clicks. The Sun and DM are still the biggest sellers.

I'm just saying that hard copy sales are becoming less important to them. Newspaper sales are heading to the grave.

The really clever titles went early for bespoke apps too. Some never prepared the ground thinking the internet was a temporary fad (ITV also made that boob).

Surprised 3 people have picked The Guardian. I thought that was one of the tamer ones. Same with Express. (Haven't read either)

Yes, I did vote for the Express, but I knew it wouldn't get that many votes. There is something really tragic imo about the combination of stupidity (the 114 consecutive Madeleine McCann covers; the hundreds and hundreds of Princess-Diana-was-murdered covers), mean-mindedness (hating immigrants, charity appeals for Africa, unmarried mothers, feminists, divorced women, councils, young people, students, 'intellectuals', comprehensive schools, criminals unless they were beating up feral young people, social workers, probation officers, liberals, radicals, and above all MUSLIMS), dullness and a general air of tired decline. It is a TERRIBLE paper, with none of the humour of the Sun or the knack of the Mail for constructing a water-cooler human interest story.

If there's one thing worse than being the Mail, it's trying to desperately be the Mail and failing badly.

As if the populous of DS will return any other verdict than The Daily Mail or The Sun.

The poll results made me laugh. Talk about singling ones out (which I've just done, but only after some rational thought).
