I voted for the Independent because it is precisely that and because it has a very wide range of views and commentators. The Telegraph is also worth a look too for its business pages and for some commentators like the great Peter Oborne who's always worth reading.

I generally the Independent and Guardian, the latter particularly for its coverage and analysis of legal issues. The Telegraph is best for arts coverage, so I tend to read its theatre reviews etc. but not the rest of the paper.
The Daily Mail is good for getting a laugh out of the woeful quality of the journalism and the extrapolation of stories from nothing. I wouldn't read the Sun or any other red-top if you paid me. |

The Indie, but I quite like the Times as well, despite it being part of Murdoch's 'evil empire'.

Maybe, The Guardian is not the best, at least, this is the most sane newspaper in Britain, i can read. Along with The Morning Star, but content in the Guardian is much more interesting
And interesting, The Daily Mail is going to be both best and worst newspaper in Britain, at least, everyone knows Daily Mail's founder had some relationship with British Nazis..... or not? [trollface] |

Go the Grauniad, and the independant! Both doing very well, considering that they're some of the worst selling papers.

God I am pathetically shallow - I voted the Telegraph - but realistically - it's the crossword that swayed me.

This place is infested with hysterical Daily Mail "stories" on a daily basis, I'd kind of expected this paper to come top. Maybe people do realise that Mickey Mouse journalism does not equal best... I can't vote for the Guardian, I probably would have when I was a student but unfortunately the Guardian's agenda is - at times - as shockingly obvious and deliberately misinforming as the Mail. They're just much more subtle about it. The Times for me - despite being Murdoch's. |

The Telegraph (I only read the online version) especially for politics and finance blogs. I do read the Guardian online sometimes but it's kind of a lefty version of the Mail - completely biased so it's difficult to take seriously especially if you're older than undergraduate age. I like its culture section though - it's very good at the 'Arty' stuff (TV series blogs, theatre/ballet reviews etc).

Comment is Free is frankly hilarious in its blatant leftism - well the actual articles are - the comments BTL are usually far more informative/balanced than the articles themselves.

The one thing I've noticed about Guardian readers in the BTL comments is their self-satisfied, hectoring nature. Does anyone actually know any in real life? Imagine hanging around with someone like that! I can honestly say I don't know anyone who buys the Guardian and is a loyal reader but then I suppose that's why it's doing so badly.
