One of my all time favourite artists. Say what you will be he is most definitely and forever will be the King Of Soul.
It has been over 28 years since his father heartbreakingly shot him and we lost him....emotionally he hit such a decline personally and as a human being by that point it makes it even more heartaching that he met such an end.
But along with my other top top top favourite artists (Madonna, Kate Bush, Prince, grace jones, fleetwood mac, The Doors) Marvin very much was a voice and is a presence i love to listen too.
From his early Motown classics and hits and famous covers to his absolute opus launch as a serious concept album artist with Whats going On released in May 1971, Marvin enchanted and even shocked the world with his battle against the odds and sheer determination.
Specifically the Whats going on/Lets get It On/I Want You trilogy of his life with these albums are the ones i play day in and night out whenever i wanna lose myself with the rhythm, the passion, the emotion...it truly is this visceral otherworldly experience with his art. Where he also brought the Quiet Storm, Slow Jam and Urban Adult Contemporary unto the masses and pop culture.
i have yet to buy Here, My Dear (his misjudged but eventually acclaimed "divorce album") so would love to hear more if anyone owns that album please fill me in
. And i havent got his final studio album from 1982 Midnight Love physically either.
So yeah a thread to celebrate Marvin a truly gifted man!
