I have a great feeling about Lorraine Newman
I cannot put my finger on what it is but I think she is going to be EastEnders best producer for a decade.
Really looking forward to her stuff starting. |

I think she will do well as she knows Eastenders inside out and hopefully she will make the show great again.

I wonder when she will start to axe? although maybe all these actors taking breaks has stopped her from being able to ditch characters. So we could be stuck with Tyler & Anthony for another year yet.

Its what Rita and Scott said, that she's trying to get focus back to the shows roots and not have loads of big storylines and just have one big plot which affects the whole community. That sounds good to me

I think by the autumn EastEnders will be unmissable TV once again.
The whole cast is great it just needs good direction and good storylines. There is no need to axe any characters or intoduce new ones. |

The best producer in the world would struggle to make Tyler and Derek watchable. But I'll remain open minded...

Same here. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience at EastEnders from at least 1997. She's been a script editor, script producer, producer and series story producer according to IMDb.

Sounds wkd! Where is the interview with Rita and Scott really wanna see it
![]() She replaces Bryan Kirkwood, who quit in March after a difficult two years at the helm of the flagship soap. But Scott and Rita told Cyber SQ that Lorraine, who's been working on EastEnders for 18 years, 'knows the code' of the soap. Hunky Scott Maslen said: "I think EastEnders has broken up a little bit, with different independent stories. It used to be all about community and how the community felt about one story, but with many different opinions on it. I think Lorraine will bring that back." Meanwhile Rita said: "I've said it before and I'll say it again, the ladies of the cast are really excited to have a female. I haven't been at EastEnders under the reign of a female... I think she's going to do a sterling job." |

I hope so. Lorraine Newman knows the soap better anyway. I just hope her skills haven't detoriated which happens sometimes. Did Rita and Scott say this on the BSA aftermath?

I think it will be nice to have a woman in charge for a change, as it means less chance of gangster-led plots.

I'll wait till I've seen a vast improvement before I get all gushy over this woman. It could turn out to be a right pigs ear but we wont know till we've seen it. I actually feel sorry for the poor girl, she's got months of work ahead of her to clear up the last Ep's mess. Good luck with that I say but the cast seem to support her so that will go a long way to getting back on track.

I thought BK was going to be great for EE but that turned out to be complete disaster so I'll wait to see her work first.

I think it'll be back like the Diederick Santer era. Modern feeling again, and more 21st century. And that obviously means the boxing gym, the antique's shop and a few other of Bryan Kirkwood's failures AXED.

What makes me feel positive is that the evidence we have from Kirkwood's prompt departure and what we've heard from the cast since suggests full acknowledgement that EE is not in a great place right now. The first step towards dealing with a problem is admitting that one exists.

To me Lorraine Newman has her work cut out, I am finally admitting to myself that EastEnders had become very disjointed and out of my place and this is all down to the shoddy writing of Bryan Kirkwood and his team. I much prefer Corrie & Neighbours right now.
I am however looking forward to Sharon's return and am glad this is under Newman's not Kirkwood's reign. Newman whoever must axe the deadwood fast and replace them with strong characters. One of the reasons why I have lost interest in my own fanpic version is because we are now into May and there is still far too much deadwood still in the show. |
