Get Bryan Kirkwood back to Hollyoaks
It's clear that those classic Hollyoaks years 2006-2008 are never going to be repeated unless BK comes back to the helm and restores Hollyoaks to its former glory. Don't get me wrong, it's shown moments of brilliance since he left (the second half of last year springs to mind) but the current ratings speak for themselves. 600k on C4 last night- absolutely atrocious! It's not getting the recognition it deserves at award ceremonies because the viewers simply aren't there to vote anymore. The show's ratings have halved since BK left, and I can't believe C4 are happy with them. The show had some of its best ratings in years for the Silas storyline, and it performed well for a few months after. But 2012 has seen things back at square one again and it's becoming clear something is not working- how else do you explain the terrible ratings? I was delighted to hear Bryan was back at Lime Pictures, but I just pray that it's in someway going to see him end up back as Hollyoaks Series Producer. The years of Claire/Max, McDean, Warren and Louise, Hannah's anorexia, Max's death, Niall's revenge seem like a lifetime ago now but the show was AMAZING back then.

Personally I think it'd be too much like 1 step forward 10 steps backwards. They need to listen to the fans and adapt the writing to fit. Rather than the dreariness of recent times.

If he does come back I hope he doesnt axe good characters. I do hope he comes back because I understand where people are coming when they say Hollyoaks is crap but saying the actors suck is abit OTT. Oaks has some good actors. Actors that should get the recognition they deserve. I hope Jonny and Emmett are right and 2013 is the year of the underdogs. Would like to see them take home the lot. *ducks*

i would like him to come back his era was the best HO has ever been
if he came back he should take it back to that time also he should axe the deadwood characters that ES seems to love also dont just give people acting jobs when they write songs or are a boyband |

Towards the end of the his tenure, he started lose it though. Jake went psycho, with the viewer being able to see the effects of Newt's schizophrenia, the show started to get a bit silly, there was all that rubbish with Warren and Sasha/Calvin and Nige, Ravi and his brain aneurysm was just pointless. Louise deserved a better exit than what she got. I suppose he'd be practically getting a new show now since most of the cast are new.
I wouldn't be surprised if he has an uncredited role at the show as a consultant. Going back to Hollyoaks might be considered as a step down for him but since he's working at Lime, he can have an input in the show without anyone knowing he's involved. Producers aren't miracle workers. Those actors left of their own accord and are unlikely to be interested in returning. Emma Rigby has already signed up to a second series of Prisoners' Wives. Guy Burnet is still pushing forward for success in Hollywood and James Sutton has left another soap and seems to be more interested in doing drama series. It would be wrong to bring back John Paul without Craig anyway. |

I remember reading an interview with Kirkwood when he'd taken over HO and at that time the show was getting a lot of positive critical attention, and he spoke about what he and the team did at the start by basically locking themselves away, looking at every single aspect of the show in detail and deciding what was working, what wasn't working etc. That's really what every new EP should be doing. |
