Strong signal on Channel 53 from Reigate, quality nil |

Strong signal on Channel 53 from Reigate, quality nil
I have a Panasonic DMR-BWT700 DVD Bluetooth player recorder with a DVBT-T2 tuner.I am on the Reigate transmitter and get 100% strength and quality signal on all channels except 53 which Digital UK say I should be getting HD. This has 100% signal strength but nil quality. Digital UK state that I should have an aerial group of C/D V, W V. As far as I can see I have an High Gain aerial with the reflectors mounted side to side and the X type elements long and thin so I assume it is vertically mounted, but I don't know if this is one of the recommended groups.
I would appreciate some input if anyone can advise. Thanks |

Normally high strength and zero quality means a strong signal which the device cannot decode, either analogue or an HD signal on a non-HD box.
Are you sure the device can do HD ? Does it have a "Freeview HD" logo ? Note that "Freeview" and "HD Ready" does not count. |

And the first line says "Twin Freeview+ HD Tuners" so it jolly well ought to work.

100% strength almost certainly means it's overloading the tuner front end. It's possible that it's less able to handle this in DVB-T2 mode - 27,000 or so carriers crammed into 8 MHz bandwidth rather than 6,817 for DVB-T.
Turn down or remove any boosters, bypass the masthead amp if any, and (if required) add attenuators. |

Is this perhaps a box which needs the HD Mux to be tuned separately from the SD Mux?

I'm wondering if the tuner is at fault, everything else seems to have been covered. The unit is only three months old and this was the first opportunity to get HD after the switch over. I had been looking forward to it and you can imagine my dissapointment when it wouldn't work. |

Have you actually done a manual tune -
I would have depowered the unit and then re-powered to see if that had sorted it out and then force it to look at the HD mux.... It then might see it - but it not a trip back to the shop - all very disappointing ... |

Does it have an LNA option (Low Noise Amplifier) built in?
If so, turn it Off. |

If so, turn it Off. I have emailed Panasonic support with the problem but have not heard anything back. I would take it back to the shop, Richer Sounds, but a previous unit had problems and they were not too interested even though it was in warranty. |

Chris. Is the message definitely from the box and not the TV? Seen before on a forum when the message was thought to be from a box but was actually from the TV. Just a thought. |

The message is definately from the Panasonic. For a little while yesterday I had a colourful mosaic pattern on one of the HD channels but that has now reverted to the no signal message. I have done a further manual tune on channel 53. It still shows maximun signal strength but zero quality. I'm going out to buy an attenuator tomorrow and give that a try and also hope that I eventually get a response from Panasonic. |

The manual sugests that it can turn red when the signal is too strong. To quote: "When the signal is too strong (red bar), reduce the signal amplification at your aerial". |

What I have thought and somebody can put me right. I route the RF out of the unit through my SKY+ box (which is not an HD box) then to the TV. I'm sure it can't make a difference as the signal is just routed through but you never know! |
