I purchased a small pocket camcorder from Comet. When I got home I found that the camera was not in the box only the USB lead was there I went back. Within the hour and was met with a large amount of disbelief and after a embarising discussion between 3of their staff they then gave me another one.So if you buy an item from comet or anywhere open the box BEFORE you leave the shop

Something you should have done yourself. I ALWAYS check inside the box before I leave the shop.

Surely that is the normal thing to do? I always open the box.

I certainly wouldn't accept a box if the seal was broken. I see that as being a returned product for whatever reason or one that has been on display in the shop. I once went shopping for an HD camcorder and was offered an X display Panasonic but turned it down. You don't know what damage it has, if any or how it's been used. Although it did have £175 knocked of the price but the battery and leads were missing. Thanks but no thanks.

These type of shops frequently offer ex display items with remotes and instructions missing with around £50 off. Last time it happened I said that to order the missing items would cost more than £50. He said I could get a universal remote for a lot less. So I asked how I would retune it with one of those as I lived in a different area.
Blank expression.

What amazes me is that people actually buy them. I got asked to help with one such set when they wanted it tuned to the RF output of their VHS. They had been given a remote but one that only turned it on and off, changed channels, and the volume. I told them to take it back but never heard the outcome.

The box had a seal which looked unbroken so I had no reason to be suspicious about the contents. Trouble is i am a trusting guy now maybe I will have to change
