Anyone got one of these and if so do they record to DVD R and not just DVD RW discs? The Philips site seems to suggest just DVD RW discs. Cheers

I've seen a demo of the Philips DVDR1000 +RW DVD recorder which is a deck. It has 4 recording 'quality' modes. Depending on the mode chosen, the recording time is between 1 and 4 hours on one DVD+RW disc. IMHO it produces superb results in the HQ & SP modes but the other two are less impressive and are more like VHS. Chapter thumbnails can be added at relevant points. You can edit a disc to split portions but you cannot resequence them. You can erase portions but I believe you can't reuse those parts of the disc without erasing the whole disc first.

It cannot record DVD-R (which is what I assume you mean by 'DVD R') but I've heard that Philips plan to release a firmware release which will do their equivalent of the DVD-R write once mode which will be called 'DVD+R'.
