), you maybe need to do your homework before making suggestions like this: bar one episode, Silk is the work of one writer, who also created the series. So 'getting another writer' is hardly an option.I'd add my compliments to those in praise of this series. After a slightly shaky start, it improved consistently, and the last episode was brilliant. I'd also like to praise the writer and the BBC for having the courage to do a prostate cancer story in a primetime drama. It was superbly underplayed yet very moving in the final ep and that last scene between Martha and Billy said so much with so little. If only all TV drama could be as intelligently written and directed ... |

I nearly fell off my chair when I read the 'bullying and hounding' comment!

![]() I think Neil Stuke could be up for an award for his role in Silk - if not for this series then maybe for the next as the prostate cancer story line plays out. I mentioned earlier that I thought he was always cast in the same kind of role, which could be taken either way, but the last episode in particular showed what a fine actor he really is. |

![]() Not trying to go all psychic twin on you, but I had exactly the same reaction to Neil Stuke prior to this series of Silk - which is maybe why I was so taken aback by his performance in the last two episodes. I fear that performance may be overlooked when BAFTAs start being doled out next year - but it certainly shouldn't be. |

In what way 'naive'?!?
![]() ![]() Apart from one episode in Series 2, every other episode was written by Peter Moffat. Who also created the series. Who is also the executive producer. Please back up your argument convincingly if you are going to make one. |

I more or less said the same as you the first time it was introduced (4th or 5th episode?).

I don't watch much TV really, and never on TV, always online, so I missed Silk was back, and managed to get through the series in two days, very luckily before the episodes get taken off the iplayer (today I think).
I enjoyed it a lot, but did miss the pupils from last series, and thought it was a bit unfair we weren't really told what had happened with them. Watching it in just a couple of days was a real treat, although having CW pop up at every single available prosecution was a bit more obvious!! Many thanks to the kind folk on here, in law or otherwise, who helped out with peoples' questions, they certainly cleared a few things up for me, and it was fascinating to read from Tenant especially ![]() It's a shame some of the subtler nuances of plot were so hard to pick up on (like what had happened to the Jamaican, why exactly Price (was that his name?) was safer to take out on patrol rather than keep in camp, etc). A few questions of my own: 1) (already asked on here but I didn't see an answer) surely Farr's brother will now know that Jodie was sleeping with his wife (or rather that it was alleged in court)? 2) Why wasn't Farr angry at Billy for telling the truth about the fake alibi on the witness stand? Alright, the case collapsed in the end, but had it not then that could have sealed his fate. 3) The Fatima Ali (what a name!) case - can any of you legal types explain what would be said to her family about why the prosecution was thrown out? Obviously they couldn't be lied to, but some reason would need to be given that, the police would hope, wouldn't risk the ongoing investigations. A man still died and (presumably) the person who killed him, in circumstances never fully established in the end, got off. 4) Why on earth would Joy let the police/prosecution know Farr had told him and Martha he was with his brother's wife? It seems he'd already appeared to do enough to appease the police, they would never have known that he HADN'T told them, and this point could have sent Farr down in the end (which we are to believe Joy didn't actually want, correct?) as well as being a huge risk with Farr when only two or three people knew, one of whom was obviously himself. |

Finally managed to watch the finale and thoroughly enjoyed it. I really love this show and I'm so happy it got renewed for a third series. So looking forward to seeing Maxine return to our screens as Martha and glad that it appears Frances Barber will remain part of the cast. Her joining them shall be very good indeed

Criminal cases have to pass two 'tests' to be prosecuted, the evidential test (there has to be sufficient evidence to have a reasonable prospect of conviction) and the public interest test. There is a duty inherent on the CPS lawyer in charge of a case of "continuous review". In this case, the CPS lawyer would have to weigh up the risk to the public of police surveillance methods and the identity of any undercover personnel being discussed in open court, against the risk of the Ali family killer not being apprehended. The decision was obviously made not to jeopardise future serious drugs operations by using the information as evidence in the Ali case. |

Well, the last episode of series 2 goes to air on ABC1 in Australia tonight. Very sad. Why does such a good show have so few episodes, yet there seems to be thousands of Midsomer Murders?

Watching series 1 on dvd, does anyone know the name and singer of the song Martha is crying to at the end of episode 2 (the rape trial)? The 'love me, please love me' song? The subtitles say it is Bring it on Home by Sam Cooke, but it isn't (they must have changed in for the dvd).
