I'm looking for the most efficient way of getting the video and audio out of my laptop, into my old CRT TV.

The laptop has an HDMI port, but the TV doesn't, so that's no good.

The Laptop has a VGA port. I have used that for video to the TV before, but if I had the right lead, would that also send audio?

The TV has the following inputs:
Svideo
Audio and Video composite
Scart (though this will have the Freeview box plugged into it)

Would this lead do all I needed?

NOTE: For this cable to work, It Is essential that the device outputting or inputting the VGA signals is set to component or YPbPr. If your device cannot support component or YPbPr, This cable will not work.
There is your answer. It will not work as you want it to.

If you can find a VGA to composite video converter device/cable (*) then you could use that combined with a headphone jack to twin phono converter lead for the audio.

(*) I actually have such a device which I no longer need and is yours for P&P. TBH the results are not very good and you may do better to find an HDMI to SCART converter.

Will do audio via headphone jack to phono.
