The Soap Villain Appreciation Thread
I sometimes find that playing the bad guy, or villains, or psychopaths tend to be much more psychologically rewarding. And you can really push it, you can push the limits, and get away with it - Sean Bean
Ever get tired of seeing the good guy always win? Do you secretly wish that, just once, the villain gets the upper hand? This is a place to discuss great soap villains of history and what you love about them! |

Thanks
![]() Mad May & Steve Owen for me! May was just the ultimate delusional psycopath. I loved the way she tried to convince herself that Summer was hers, that she deserved to just take her away...she was a character I loved to hate.Steve Owen was Phil's arch-nemesis. They were evenly-matched in strength and brain power. If he was still around he could quite easily have become the king of the square. |

I loved Steve Owen he was always so cool, calm and polished. Everything Phil wasn't and isn't. It's such ashame he had to die
![]() I loved Yusef, gutted he didn't win this year, I think there is something deliciously deceiving about someone in a position of power/trust who can get away with a bit more. Like May, who was so well liked compared to Dawn. Yusef also had an ability to not say anything and cause some damage, I just wish the plot hadn't been so rushed and was maybe still continuing now, like him making his way into the family really slowly. Although when he turned abusive I didn't like that. He had great villain qualities and presence. |

I agree, I did like him, but they later turned him a bit panto, IMO, and hitting Zainab was where my opinion of him really changed. I was rooting for his downfall from that point. Yusef had charm and charisma which he used to make friends and woo Denise, which was an interesting contrast to his darker side. I just couldn't get my head around all the Masoods turning completely dumb for the storyline

Jack Dalton was an old-school gangster who commanded fear from all those working under him. I really wish we'd seen more of him before he was killed off. I'd have quite liked to have seen a confrontation between him and Johnny Allen. As we know, Johnny was supposedly retired, but he was once a fearsome gangster who grew up on the Square. Could he have know Jack Dalton? |

Oh here's another point, I always find male villains more exciting than female ones. I think there are the odd couple of female villains that do it right but some come across as a bit desperate.

Would Paul Robinson from Neighbours count as a villain? |

Amira had the potential to become the next female villain, seeing as her dad seems to be doing so well as an unlikeable bully...it's a totally ruined opportunity.
Would Paul Robinson from Neighbours count as a villain? The best female villain, if you can call her that and other than Kim Tate, was Sarah, Martin's stalker. She had such a high pitched voice, scary, and the tension built up nicely for a number of weeks until a reveal that shocked me; he didn't sleep with her in the first place. |

i could well imagine johnny allen and jack dalton being running mates during their younger years. and u r right about the respect he commanded. i would have liked to have seen the relationship between jack and dennis explored. he helped raise him IIRC.

It would have been interesting to explore their past. Andy Hunter? He took over The Firm when Dalton died, but there was a mutiny against him for being "too soft". He was a show-off, and acted more like a playground bully than a gangster at times (like Phil). |

That's true but they couldn't make her a villain because she had been wronged

I was surprised that Johnny never once mentioned Dalton or The Firm despite Andy knowing and respecting him.

Would you class Janine as a Villain? I'm not sure I would, she has a lot of qualities but also has a softer side and wants a faaaaammilllyyyy!! |
