They only invited her as part of the whole anti-Cowell vibe they had going on. It might have worked had it been during the period when they were beating Cowell & getting high ratings.

I think The Voice probably did about as well as it was ever going to do last night. Solid for Eurovision.

It would be interesting to see how many of those viewers also have access to Sky Sports.

This is a big event in the golf calendar and Sky Sports gets figures not dissimilar to those for some of its exclusive tournaments.

It held up rather well, though perhaps the hot weather isn't a bad thing for TV later in the evening as I'm certainly finding it gets to a point in the day when you just want to chill inside in the cool.

The contest does seem to be down across Europe though on 2011.


LOL - that's so true. Sadly though I wonder if there is any real incentive for Talpa to fix the live shows as it's probably more valuable to them in the long term to have a replacement show lined up for The Voice rather than try and extend it's stay beyond the first couple of years in countries where it has struggled at the live shows.

As expected for The Voice really - but 4.5m is a disaster! Saying that, the overnight series average currently stands at 7.9m although after tonights results show and next weeks final, it will be lower. Maybe 6m for next weeks final? I bet no one saw this coming after the incredible start it had. Eurovision did well, and was never going to match last years 11-year high so 7.5m is a respectable figure. Poor for the England game - but the 6m match average is good. It's the whole programme average that drags it down massively.

I agree there was an element of that in their decision. I think it's why will.i.am agreed to do the show too. It was an attempt to get one over on Cowell. Alas, it has backfired enormously.

Decent for Eurovision, a group of us watched it last night and it was as tacky as ever. The excitement came from the results not the performances.

Reasonable share for TV, it had the worst lead-in possible. It was so warm around 6pm, even I was outside then to keep cool in the shade. I do hope the final bounces back with a respectable 6m+ rating and an impressive peak (8m?).

TBH it's a derivative show and really the BBC should have thought carefully about this. It's not as crass as TXF, but viewers can see it is yet another talent contest.

No, just evening highlights. Of their three 'shared' tournaments, it's only The Masters where they both show the weekend live.

IIRC the Fonz in Happy Days was physically incapable of saying "I was wrong". I think all television and newspaper executives suffer from the same affliction.

One possible problem for The Voice if it returns next year without some or all of this year's coaches is that they could find it very difficult to find big-name replacements without bankrupting the corporation. ("We're going to need more money than that.")

Much as it pains me to agree with Simon Cowell but his comment "If it's all about The Voice, shouldn't it be on radio?" seems about right.

I didn't realise there was no live weekend coverage on Sky Sports. Looks as though the PGA doesn't pick up casual viewers in the same was as the Masters and The Open.

It's quite sad really, Luke Donald did a masterclass yesterday, yet so few tuned in.

The BBC lose live action from next year. Not the biggest of losses but it means yet another afternoon of Bargain Hunt etc. - although yesterday (and today) they did have European Gymnastics on the red button - with the Brits winning the thing too, which could have air in the "Grandstand" slot.

I saw some of it, but it was quite uncomfortable, sitting indoors with the heat.

Yes, and next week's Epsom meeting will be the last on the BBC for a while, at least, so those could be a couple of Bargain Hunt weekends next year.

TV audience was climbing until 7:30, then a dip at 7:45. At which point the football started, then at 8:00 Eurovision ensured BBC1 would easily win the night.

BBC1 (and many people) will be hoping for a cooler weekend next week.

It looks as though it'll be cooler. Probably dry again by then, but cooler.

Two different approaches. BBC have animation with classy music, although it looks a bit like a quidditch match! ITV showing some old clips with a twist which England fans can dream about.

I am not sure why they could not have kept those rights as they could not have amounted to much. Presumably pressure from SKY who show the rest of the tour anyway?
Whatever it is, as with the National, 50 years means very little.
