If X Factor returns in mid-August in a 6:30pm slot then I think yoiu can knock at least 1.5m off what it gets usually at 8pm.”

I often wonder if TXF doesn't do so well that Cowell might cancel it as he seems to be in America most of the time. He has been rattled over the last 12 months: Red or Black stiffed, TXFUSA didn't do that well, TXFUK lost 2 million viewers and BGT had a relatively poor start. However, whatever happens he will be a very rich man and ITV have been glad of his services, as BGT and TXF have delivered ratings not seen since the eighties.

You're right, in Graham Norton's pre-song commentary he said 'Euphoria' had already gone to #1 in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Lithuania and Estonia. But as long as it hasn't been released prior to September 1 of the previous year it is eligible. So hypothetically any song released officially after this time is eligible and could already have a big following thus picking up way more votes.

I don't think that we can just blame the low ratings of the Voice on its earlier slot. Having watched most of the episodes, including last nights which I recorded, the programme lacks atmosphere. The judges just don't work well on live TV, they lack charisma. Also, I find it very hard to care which contestant is eliminated. It will probably get 6.5 million for the final though

I don't think Cowell would cancel it unless he had a ready made replacement to sell to ITV - and I suspect they are already working on one and once TXF is axed in the US it'll be his big UK comeback.

But I haven't seen one single person say the timeslot is purely the issue, just because they only mention the timeslot factor doesn't mean they only believe that to be the problem. I think it's at a stage where it goes without saying that the show has lost popularity due to the format and live shows but the earlier timeslot and tougher competition has certainly helped decrease the ratings from the format and live show problem. How significant each factor has been on the ratings slide can't be proven either way.

I can only respond to what people post. That's what Ian posted.

Well, Iain's post does contain this line;

"I'm not saying The Voice doesn't have problems to be dealt with. Of course it does."

Which sounds like a concession of non-timeslot problems to me.

Audience peak of 7.1m (6.7m ex+1) and average audience of 4.5m (4.3m ex+1) for Soccer Aid 2012 on @ITV1
9:41 AM - 28 May 12

Peak where I expected it to be, but I imagine it was hurt badly by low ratings in the first hour or so.

Ouch for The Voice I'm afraid, only slightly up on Sunday in a better timeslot!

Mike, how did the F1 do from 12:05 to 15:30? (with peak if you have it )

Disappointing for the tennis, especially compared to the F1 and the golf. Only day 1 I suppose but should have done more. It's been advertised a lot and it's their most worthwhile daytime output since the Rugby World Cup. (Possibly also depending on your viewpoint their most worthwhile output period since the Rugby World Cup)

Thanks Mike, seems it was battered by the weather unsurprisingly. I imagine Sky was down a fair bit as well.

When it comes to the Voice, Bernhard Matthews wishes he had turkeys as big as this one.

Still its only £22 million of our money that Danny Cohen has pi..ed up the wall.

Isnt it a lot more than 22 million though. The 22 million is just for the rights to show it i believe. Then there is all the production costs etc which must run into more millions, anybody know how much in reality total costs are.

Yet the Voice was the top rating show of the night. Just saying...

I was wondering if anyone would say that.... so far BBC PR have resisted that little nugget (to continue the poultry theme)

Wrist slapping time i'm afraid, bit of an underestimate I would admit.

Barely. Soccer Aid was a mammoth 4hr 15m programme so lots of buildup. If you took the match itself it would have been considerably ahead of The Voice.

But put it this way ........ lets say I ploughed £22 million into a business that made say £1 million that year. But you put £1 million into a business that made £500,000.

Now technically I made more money than you ........ but ask anyone which is the better business and you'll get a different answer.

Its all about relative sizes .......... for sinking that amount of money in, it shouldnt just be scraping past everyone else, it should be kicking their ... to the curb.

You're wasting your time. People just aren't going to get it in here with regard to The Voice. Far easier to stick fingers in one's ears and pretend everything's still okay.

The big point for me now is not only is it rating well below where it started, it's also now rating below what I'd have considered to be a good result for it at the beginning. Whilst I do accept the weather had some effect over the weekend, there was nothing to stop people recording and watching later. It appears not many chose to do that.
