He could still argue that it was well down on its series high and had a lower overnight than the DOI final which was slated in this thread for allegedly underperforming.

I think George Dixon must've taken over ITV1's scheduling as well as Channel 4's.

There all very shit at the moment. Really does seem to be something in the air in terms of peoples attitudes towards soaps changing.

Not sure how much their representing real life conditions atm mind.

High drama at the tennis as number 1 seed Novak Djokovic goes two sets down in his fourth round match. Unfortunately for ITV, hoping for the bumper ratings of a Brit in the final, Andy Murray is scheduled to meet Rafa Nadal in the semi-final rather than Djokovic.

Meanwhile I await the Pageant figures with interest. The Great British Public spending 4 hours of the Bank Holiday Sunday afternoon watching an old lady take a boat trip up the Thames.

Decent for The Voice, shows how the weather and early timeslot have dented it recently.

Terrible but justified for ITV1. The Cube has a Bafta but not many viewers, The Football Ad show was a stupid commission and expectedly poor for YCBS despite Alistair McGowan being a very decent impressionist. Have to wonder how low these shows would have gone in last week's weather...”

Hello my followers Reading the comments, and I've yet to see the weather properly thanked for just about squeaking 7m (not quite the 15m predicted several weeks ago).

I agree with Andy that ITV planned their schedule back at the time when they were convinced this 15m bandwagon was going to be dominating the night. So they scheduled some filler and of course after blaming ITV for aggressively competing with The Voice, now they are being blamed for not competing. Make your minds up folks!

The blind auditions did do well, but come on - there is not a single entertainment programme on record in the history of the BBC that got a higher average rating? Have they been burning the records?

Well, it will certainly be a marker as to how much the event means to people. In itself it does not seem to amount to much other than adding colour to a dull day, but obviously in a historical sense it means much more. Im sure we all know someone who wouldnt touch this with a barge pole (so to speak).

Maybe the overkill with episodes, poor acting, cheap sets and predictable plots are turning people away. I often wonder if ratings will fall so much in years to come that the soaps will be moved into daytime like America.

The Voice staged a mini recovery in the face of a horrendously weak schedule from ITV with a decent average. Good peak. Seems it mopped up a lot of casual viewers as the competition was as weak as it was ever going to be.

A lot to learn from for next series. Will be very interesting to see where they go from here.

ITV could've changed their schedule once they saw The Voice was struggling. A two hour Lewis repeat would've performed better than what they did air.

Regarding the soaps - everything has taken a hit. Coronation Street was up against a Rotyal documentary which the BBC threw their vast publicity team at to gain promotion and EastEnders was up against another Royal documentary (which had a 7m crossover from BBC One) and out of it's normal slot.

The soaps always go through peaks and troughs, and I think will continue to see year on year declines. But everything else will follow this pattern as well as the power of digital increases so I think on an average week (without The X Factor/Strictly/Britain's Got Talent about) the soaps will continue to top the ratings.

The BBC will be very relieved that The Voice rebounded and ended with a very good 8.7 million. I do think with a better panel the show could regularly attract 8 million an episode.
No surprises ITV1 sunk last night, this must be one of the weakest schedules ever.

I honestly think ITV thought the opposite.
The Voice was struggling so they put on a comedy about Football and then the Cube. Probably thinking 4 million or so.

The ads thing was pure filler but they'd have expected better.
ITV had a shockingly bad night, and I'm not expecting it to turn around anytime soon.

8.7 million tuned in to see the winner be annouced and they would not have seen the winner sing... and are probably still wondering who came second and third...it was messy and rushed to be honest. The guy in fourth place got more coverage than the others

I agree; EastEnders having an hour long episode on Wednesday will dent ITV as will the concert on Monday. Tuesday will collapse as per usual and Russia v Czech Republic is hardly a draw for their Friday night schedule. Saturday has no chance up against Germany v Portugal on BBC One so their next chance of even winning a night will be next Sunday with Ireland v Croatia across primetime.

There was a 2 hour Lewis on ITV3 at 9pm for those that wanted it. Preceeded by a Doc Martin repeat. Probably pulled in their usual 1m audience. No much point in putting the same show on ITV1 too.

Note that the EPG has split up Tuesday's Diamond Jubilee broadcast on ITV1 into the following portions:

- 08:30 to 10:30
- 10:30 to 11:30
- 11:30 to 13:30
- 13:30 to 16:00

but had Lewis & Doc Martin been on ITV1 they would have pulled in 4 million.

ITV1's scheduling is a joke. Look at Tuesdays. And that Footie Ads show is repeated next Saturday.

it makes much more business sense to keep them on ITV3. Repeat fees are about 5% of what they are on ITV1 primetime.

They may as well have put that on ITV1. It would've at least said 'quality'.

Saying that, I feel a bit sorry for You Cannot Be Serious - I can see the thought process even if it didn't pay off. The Cube has been hopelessly scheduled for ages and it needs some stability instead of being thrown about between Saturday and Sunday; especially when it wasn't even a Celebrity Special.

What on Earth they were thinking with The Greatest Footie Ads ever in anyone's guess.

Well I haven't heard anyone discuss Home and Away and Neighbours for over 10 years and even the big three aren't such big topics of conversation any more. I think the days of an average Coronation St episode pulling in 17 million are long gone due to digital and the fact it's no longer must see television.

Some mad monarchists are tweeting that ITV is being unpatriotic for showing FRENCH tennis rather than some boats in the rain today.

Thanks for that fresh insight into the situation.

ITV have however had a good few nights recently winning 9pm quite a bit, not that it would ever be mentioned on here.
