Last year people were claiming the BBC were "lifeless" and "dull" at the Royal Wedding compared to ITV, who "got into the spirit" of things better (with Mark Austen being swamped by crowds, the presenters having their own balcony kiss. etc.) Seems like the BBC tried to make today's coverage a little more "of the people" - but found the people were mostly wet, cold and a little forced in their enthusiasm.

To be honest, they can't really win. To some they'll be too stiff, to others too matey. For most, however, I imagine they'll have been relatively inoffensive and provided a pretty reasonable broadcast of the day.

But then maybe there's great demand in seeing the great actor giving his take on lemurs? One thing's for sure, Attenborough isn't quaking in his boots just yet.”

The dogs one did very well, I'd forgotten it was that high. Not really surprising that the manta ray show didn't have quite the same attraction and obviously this one won't either but I do think there's a decent audience out there for it (as there generally is with Clunes) and who knows, the unusual Bank Holiday Tuesday circumstances might yield a bit of a surprise.

Possibly a few but it's had quite a lot of promotion so I think most people will know it's new.

During the BBC's Royal Wedding coverage the beeb were accused of being too serious. Their pageant coverage was clearly designed to counter those accusations. However, the format of the coverage seemingly relied upon a Sunny day. I think overall the BBC's coverage was superb, but there were some elements (like the Sandi Toksvig/Horrible Histories sketches) were unwisely misjudged. It was moments like this that viewers pick up on rather than the majority of the very good coverage. I think that viewers overall enjoy seeing well known presenters too. A four hour broadcast just showing boats would have been dull indeed. The mistake the BBC made was that it was too random in its breaks from the floatilla coverage.

It might have made more sense to lead with the new series and schedule the repeats off the back of it to avoid that kind of confusion. Puzzling logic once again from the schedulers.

Also worth noting it has a rapid repeat on Thursday at 10.35.

ah the BBC trying to copy ITV - it never ends well. Its like depositing a Guardian editor into a working mans club. Soon found out!

And lol at Dancc criticising Martin Clunes ITV docs. Maybe its not quite the Fox style "When Bulidings Collapse" or "When Lemurs Kill" style you'd get over on Five

Fair point.

Tomorrow's ratings will be some of the most interesting for a while, with strong offerings from both main channels in primetime and the pageant during the day. Hopefully we'll see some really good ratings all round.

It wasn't that it was 'of the people', more that it just seemed very Alan Partridge.

"We'll have Anneka Rice on the Millennium Bridge talking to people painting, followed by Sian Williams on Tower Bridge with a CBBC sketch, followed by Sandi Toksvig on a boat interviewing Griff Rhys Jones and Omid Djaji", who came up with these ideas.

There was also no wet weather plan, almost all those features took place in the pouring rain, Sophie & Matt had very few guests in the studio.

Pretty much everythin was up 100k on last week though, Masterchef was 1.23m and Downton was 1.4m last week. The only show seeming to do poor is Dancing with the Stars, Seven will be glad to see the back of that in a couple of weeks, but what will they replace it with? No doubt bloody border security and the force. Even at 1.8m though isn't the Block down on last year? My Kitchen Rules was regular getting 1.7-1.8m most nights in a much worse ratng period, and only got 2.72m for its final. Can't see the Block doing much more than that. Still think the Voice is nailed on to be the biggest show of the year

I think it'll be more than decent considering the weather across the country. Outside Coronation Street (which I think will be in the mid to high 5s) I wonder if any show on ITV1 will have topped 5m.

DWTS has been a huge failure this season. Sure, The Voice dented it in the beginning, but these two don't clash anymore since a month ago. Again, it's a simple case of poor casting choices and no character/liveliness. Even in its promo, with the contestant numbers dwindling down, it still looked underwhelming. Same goes with AGT, the acts are not really that intriguing. As for their replacement, well, my safe guess is The X Factor. I think they film the Judges' Houses round when the show premieres on Seven. If The X Factor declines significantly (and it's possible this year), Seven will have to do some serious thinking for next year's schedule. I am not putting my money on Winners & Losers having better numbers this season, let alone My Kitchen Rules improving on this year's numbers for 2013.

The BBC is always ''under fire'' whatever it does, it's part of their role as national broadcaster. Why is ITV not ''under fire'' for not covering the event at all ?

It's true that the coverage might have come off better if it had been sunny, but there happy medium of coverage between "too serious and dour for a Wedding" and "felt like a Red Nose Day" special. Did we need so much twaddle about Jubilee Babies, couldn't that have been saved for a more appropriate One Show follow up?

Yesterday Diamond Jubilee was watched by 3.92m on our first channel ARD here in Germany. It was a share from 20.3 %. In the group from 14 to 49 it was watched by 0.72m (9.7 %).

The ARD shows the parade from 14:00 to 17:37 UK time.

The Diamond #Jubilee Thames Pageant averaged a huge 10.3m/55.9% on #BBC1

BBC1’s Gary Barlow Jubilee song doc drew 6.35m (27.7%) while The Apprentice final hired 6.86m (27.4%) from 8.30pm-9.30pm.

Okay My previous post was complete bollocks! What a great rating for the pageant and that really puts things into perspective for tonight.

Maybe the BBC should consider showing a couple of boats in the rain as a normal Daytime fixture!

Whoah! If it averaged a whopping 55.9% over 4 hours, wonder what the all-day shares were for 'other' channels...

Cue the 'filler' arguments...
