Good for Barlow and as expected for The Apprentice. It normally time shifts about a million so 7.86- maybe 8 million for the final.

Well that puts to rest the argument no-one is interested. Excellent ratings. Expect similar for the concert tonight.

Across the whole day, #BBC1's average audience share was 34.8% - more than 3.5x that of any other channel.

French Open Tennis on ITV1 yesterday averaged 0.4m yesterday between 9.30pm and 6pm.

ITV should have shown the Pageant. The French Open rated as well as the ITV4 coverage normally does.

34.8% I suppose that is considered good these days!

Looking at the timings Michael Rosser wrote, I think that 6.9m Apprentice rating might be just the first hour average. With the second hour included (as it will be in the overnights and officials), the final as a whole might've averaged around 6-6.5m so it'll timeshift closer to 7-7.5m.

Oh là là, pauvres ITV.

While 10.3m would be good for a drama/gameshow/talent show, for a major royal thing it's actually very low.

Up against Pageant yesterday: BBC2 Gymnastics 0.2m (1.3%), ITV1 Tennis 0.4m (3.1%), C4 She's the Man 0.7m (3.7%), C5 Sinbad 0.5m (2.5%).

Ah... The Appentice final started late so actually drew 6.68m (26.8%) for the first hour, ahead of spin-off You’re Hired.

Previous 'The Apprentice' finale overnight ratings for the main part of the final (not including You're Hired):

2008- 8.9m (36%)
2009- 9.82m (37.9%)
2010- 8.56m (32.5%)
2011- 9.83m (35.8%)
2012- 6.68m (26.8%)

Given how awful the BBC coverage apparently was, this may be a case where the BBC might have been wishing for a lower figure. I wonder how much of a car crash element there was to the figures? Did they build as the weather worsened?

Ouch for ITV though wonder why the share price is really dropping.
Must be its worst day ever?

That was ok for the apprentice. It has stayed pretty steady throughout the series. I wonder how sky coverage of the pageant fared.

Do you get a feeling that the French Open will be consigned to ITV4 only next year. Lets hope the final rates well for them because they deserve it to work for them.

Shame its not getting the ratings as I would rather watch French Open than the soaps.

The Apprentice Final averaged 6.1m over its two hours. 6.7m for the first hour, 5.5m for the second hour.

I would have predicted 10.3m for the peak never mind the average. Great performance. BBC1 the main beneficiary of the bad weather. Good ratings for Gary Barlow too.

Not bad. In line with the rest of the series. But another programme the BBC need to have a think about for next year.

Wonder how many did like I did and switched to the coverage on the Sky New channel. I even persuaded my elderly mum to change channels, and her reation half our later when I went to check up on her was 'oh yes, this is much better' (she said she hadn't even known sky news was covering it as well until I told her)

I usually watch the BBC for big occasions but got fed up with the constant cutting away to 'experts' and 'babies',

Yes but it was an extraordinarily boring royal event involving looking at boats and Tess Daly observing cakes for over five hours and therefore over 10 million is very impressive.

Didn't watch any of it but spoke to people who did and they said if it hadn't been for the celebrities it would have took boredom to a new level. It was dull enough as it was apparently. So yeah, 10m is amazing. Does ITV know its Jubilee year?

10.3m + a reported million watching from the banks of the Thames + however many at street parties/big lunches around the country. I expect even bigger numbers for the concert tonight.

And as a reminder:

Anyone think the concert can beat the average or the peak of 2002?

The bbc coverage was embarrassing for them. Everything seemed to go wrong. The two presenters in the studio looked confused and unprepared everytime the camera returned to them. The female presenter did her best but was not helped by Matt baker who was like a nodding idiot beside her . People stuck with it because they wanted to see the event but many would not have been impressed with how the bbc presented it

Absolutely stunning for the river pageant. I wasn't expecting anything like that sort of audience. Jubilee fever really has swept the nation. The tennis absolutely bombed on ITV - I think they might keep it on ITV1 for weekends next year though as it does no worse than thir usual output then and they get more kudos for it. It would probably have been closer to 1m without the pageant.

Great rating for Gary Barlow too, and deservedly so. He's a very popular man just now and combining that with jubilee fever was always going to lead to a strong audience.

Surprised it outrated The Apprentice though (well the 2 hour average anyway). Have to say that's really quite bad for The Apprentice final. The main show was down a whopping -32% on last year whilst You're Hired was -34% down despite an earlier slot. Piers Morgan will be delighted.

Unfortunately I don't think too many people realise that you can get Sky News on Freeview and probably stuck with the BBC thinking there was no other option.

Really disappointed about the ITV tennis ratings. I've watched more of ITV over the last week than I ever have before and the French Open coverage deserved to be a modest success at least.

The BBC got a lot of criticism for its coverage yestreday but the public voted with their remotes. Over 10million viewers shows how much people trust the BBCs coverage based on past form and reputation, and the public will continue to support the BBCs royal coverage for years and years to come.

No, I disagree. People don't always know they can get Sky News on Freeview.

The BBC is first choice for all these sorts of events for most people. Im assuming Sky News's coverage was littered with adverts?
