Top Gear won't be back until next year, no second series later this year: Quote:
THE Beeb has put the brakes on Top Gear until next year — so it does not clash with ITV1’s X Factor. I thought Top Gear normally has a series in the summer though?
The motoring show is usually broadcast in the autumn. But it pulls in about half the viewers of Simon Cowell’s show on ITV, and star Jeremy Clarkson admits it cannot compete. He said: “Top Gear is a medium-sized van. Cowell is a juggernaut.” Apart from a Christmas special, it will not now return until 2013. The Sun columnist added: “Would love to be back in the autumn but Sunday nights then will be full of fat people singing. “The good news is that the longer we have to make the films, the better they will be.” |

NBC continues to take all the fun out of the upfronts
NBC Picks Up Comedy ‘Guys With Kids’ If I was currently employed on an NB comedy, I would be very nervous, I might return this fall, but I may be like 30 Rock, and have a shortened final season. From what I've heard, '1600 Penn' will be placed on 'Must See Thursdays' (Do they still call it that, quite the opposite), sandwiched inbetween Community and The Office. 'Go On' will be on Weds; I did read the script for the pilot the other month and it does have some laughs. Look forward to watching the final product. |

Do you watch Emmerdale Andy? The Zak storyline is just awful at the moment and awful to watch. The people who post in the daily episode threads are just sad its gone so downhill recently.
EastEnders Holding up Nicely against BGT Up on Monday night in Rating and Share and up on last year too. Not that far behind Emmerdale either. |

At one point American Idol was paying out in excess of $60m for "on screen talent". And $15m or so does seem to be the new equilibrium - J'Lo on Idol (although she's said to be nearer $20m now), Ryan Seacrest on the same show, Christina on The Voice (perhaps a bit less) and Howard Stern on America's Got Talent.
It works out around $350k per broadcast hour. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...d-stern-290871 |

Well Simon claims the entire budget for The X Factor USA is $100 million (it's definitely not as high as American Idol's and has probably been reduced since the show didn't exactly do as well as hoped) so supposedly spending $15 million on one person will take a sizeable chunk out of the budget, unless Fox has given them extra cash to make the deal.
While it was lower than they'd have hoped, it's hugely important for them again this fall. Even to maintain the current numbers, they probably needed a big signing to keep up with their rivals. The main saving for FOX this year will be in promotion - they'll not be doing the same kind of massive campaign they had going last year and that'll save them a small fortune. Some of that is probably heading Britney's way! |

X Factors success is important to Cowell/Syco. They will likely not be making a huge profit off the franchise this year.
Whilst I doubt Cowell is significantly paid. The hope is for future success and for artists who sell records. |

I'm not sure how it works in the states, but over here talent is supplied to the show by the network, e.g. ITV pays Ant and Dec, Alesha, David, etc. and then they pay the production company for the programme. The two are kept quite separate usually. Alesha's wage, for example, is not coming out of the production budget, she is an ITV employee, not Talkback or Syco.
So if its the same in the states, the marketing shout is a good one. FOX will have spent millions of dollars in marketing last year and they wont do that again. Spending it in this way adds value to the show and gets them a lot of publicity in a new way. By the sounds of it Sony are happy to keep this $5m investment in the winner. I'd be interested to see if Pepsi continue their sponsorship and offer the Superbowl ad again - I think they were dissapointed the show didn't reach the 20m heights they wanted and I think thats why they buckled and parachuted Elton into the ad. |

Eastenders in ratings crisis according to this mornings Sun, blaming BGT is just an excuse.
Absolutely no mention of BGT's own lowish ratings anywhere, even in T'Mail. |

The main show up by a million, which to be fair was expected due to no EastEnders, although the results show probably found itself under 7m excluding +1, but a tad higher than Tuesday which is somewhat odd considering the tougher opposition.

UKTV's star performer Alcatraz, has as expected, been cancelled. Sky1's moderate success Touch has been renewed.

Brilliant resiliance by The Apprentice - barely hit by Corrie and BGTR at all. And will obviously timeshift well too.
Take a bow Lord Sugar. |

C4 asks viewers to spot mental health patients
Quote:
Channel 4 is embarking on a major programming stunt by casting people with mental health issues in some of its highest-profile series – and asking viewers whether they can spot them. Source: Broadcast. The broadcaster is attempting to tackle the stigma around mental health by placing contributors in mainstream programming such as Come Dine With Me, Location, Location, Location and The Million Pound Drop Live, in a bid to normalise the issue. The week-long stunt is part of Channel 4’s pledge to order edgy programming and is likely to be unveiled when it releases its annual report next week. How is it normalising the issue if you are asking viewers to "spot them" ? A pretty pathetic stunt if you ask me, they are not interested in tackling this issue properly. |

It had an appalling title, can't remember what it was called, but it was actually excellent. It made you realise that it's harder to label people that we might think. It made you aware that people can have quite serious mental issues but be extremely articulate and seem like anyone else. I really enjoyed it. ![]() Here I found a link, it was BBC2 2008, http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/jo...-mental-health |
