No time to trawl this morning's posts, but assume it can be summed up as "BGT 1st live show in shock 2m slump on last year - move along nothing to see", "Voice 2m down on last week - ratings crisis, axe to fall, hold tomorrow's Sun front page"?
Yes?

CBS have very few gaps unless they make some bold cancellations. 2 out of 3 of the CSI franchise are vulnerable. Second hour of comedy on Thursdays? The Mentalist to Fridays?
The CW... God help them. I guess though unlike here CBS wouldn't want to dilute it's main network - and wouldn't be surprised if the FCC have some rules in place preventing such a move. |

Have a 2 hour live show with 2 contestants from each team performing so 8 overall. Have a Eurovision-esque vote in that 2-hour show with us finding out the results from different regions, with the top 4 going through to the final. Do the same thing for the 2nd live show with a further 8 contestants. Then in the final 2.5 hour show, there'll be 8 contestants and do the Eurovision-style voting again, so we find out who ultimately is 'The Voice of Britain'. Something like that may make live show different to a carbon copy of Xfactor live. Sorry if it's badly explained, off topic and intruding ![]()

Full DS report for Sunday: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s188/...3m-for-c4.html
Ouch at Channel 5's 2.7%. World's Scariest Flights didn't do anywhere near as well as World's Scariest Plane Landings earlier in the year. My theory is viewers thought it was just a repeat of that. They should have left it longer and called it something else. Men in Black, previously a title shown by Channel 5, repeated as well as ever for Channel 4. |

Even BGT's peak was 200k down on last year's average!
![]() And it needed a bombing SW repeat to even manage that, Planet Earth Live doing a great job of keeping BGT in check. Looks like BGT needs a Corrie crutch this year, not the other way round! |

I wouldn't do the Eurovision style unless maybe they link the winner to represent the UK. Staying with a Eurovision idea for live shows inspiration. In the German Eurovision selection they had the % of the phone votes on the screen and the voting was open throughout. Acts would chop and change when they sung well or did badly with the % figure changing. They then had the results close with the top % being saved in a five minute window until the bottom 2 are left to battle it out.
Something like that may make live show different to a carbon copy of Xfactor live. Sorry if it's badly explained, off topic and intruding ![]() ![]() From 2013 every song entering Eurovision has to be selected by the home country via a public vote so the BBC won't be able to select the song off their own back like they have done these past few years. |

Au contraire. This is traditionally one of C5's worst performing weeks of the year. Last year they had 4.4% the week before, 4.1% during BGT week itself, and then a massive rally to 4.6% the week after. So it had a dramatic impact on audience share.
BGT is such a powerhouse it does have a knock-on effect on everything unfortunately. I do have my suspicions that it won't do as well as normal though as it normally falls during half term week. Responsible parents won't let their kids stay up until 10pm to watch it on a school night, so that will dent the average for the results shows. |

We haven't really got anything to compare last night's rating with so I'm holding fire for a couple of days. If by Wednesday/Thursday there are year on year declines then there's a bit of a problem and you'll have real reason to gloat. ![]() Tonight will be interesting. I'm hoping for better than last night but I can't see it matching last year's 11.3m. Looking at the ratings as a whole for last year, that one stands out as freakishly high (for reasons I don't know) and way above any over non-final rating from last year, so I can't see it matching that (especially not with EE at 19:30). However they'll be looking to avoid the post-Monday drop from last year, so if the semis as a whole are in line with or up on last year then they should be pleased. I'll probably reserve judgement (either way) until much later in the week though. |

Has it been mentioned that the Voice's live show got a higher share than BGT's live show?

Right, maybe am missing something. But is BGT really needing such 'OH NOES'?!
Its a decent rating. Also last year had Cowell's return. No such thing this year as hes been there all series. (also they still have Amanda Holden!) |

I'll probably reserve judgement (either way) until much later in the week though. It's not a dire rating like Robbie is unsurprisngly trying to make out but it's not fantastic either. I think the filler (Tulisa was awful) would've dragged down the average somewhat as last year's semi final had the acts, a break for Coronation Street and then the results. Does anyone have a 5 or 15 minute breakdown for the slot, please? The standout rating for the night is Homeland, which performed superbly considering the commercial opposition. Planet Earth Live also did very well. I wouldn't gloat too much about The Voice's rating as I can see Britain's Got Talent's results also rating around there due to the late finish on a school night. However, the BBC One show is losing momentum and the early start next week won't help. Once Upon a Time recorded an admirable figure considering it's been thrown about the schedule. |

I don't think it does although I won't lie, I was expecting it to be higher. Especially since the live show last night was vastly superior to any of the live shows last year. Polished, slick, entertaining, funny. I do think Cowell's big return helped last year though. Remember it was around the time of the Cheryl Cole controversy so people will have tuned to see if Simon would mention it. I think that might explain why it was so high.
Saturdays didn't help. With stupid outdoor bits and swimmers etc. Its like the opposite of The Voice. Mind you it could have just been they front loaded all the good acts! I think as long as BGT is +8 million its doing well - for what the show is anyway. So am never too shocked at the ratings as generally I think its been punching above its weight for years now. |

I caught bits of it last night and it seemed quite good. The problem is the auditions are basically a big long advert to service the finals. They failed imo to create any excitement.

If last year's started on a Monday then surely the BGT ratings slump is even worse - I thought Sunday was the big TV watching night?
And even last year was a slump on the previous year wasn't it? I hope a couple of ropey figures for The Voice don't deflect media attention from BGT's below par ratings.... And Monday's ratings increase because it's the Bank Holiday weekend. ![]() But, seriously, Sunday normally rates high because it's the end of the weekend. And on a Bank Holiday the end of the weekend switches to the Monday. Which under normal circumstances would be the second highest rated night of the week. |

I was wondering what changes you fellas think BBC1 should make in order to get ratings back up for The Voice live shows next year? I know both of you are also big BBC fans, and even though Robbie you dont enjoy watching The Voice, would you like the idea of having the live shows stripped across one big week like what Itv1 does with BGT to make it more of an event? That was Iaindbs idea if i recall correctly and hes onto something there imo.
Contest wise - very little needs to be changed, the live shows will get naturally get better as everyone gets into their groove although ratings will struggle for the rest of this series looking at the schedules for the next couple of weeks. |

Scheduling wise - air it earlier in the year before the clocks change so the 7pm starts aren't damaging the first part of the shows and it doesnt have to air at silly times like next week to help BGT. Also, put the results show on at 8:30pm on Sunday.
