Both of them were also supposed to be able to attract a relatively strong male audience to the slot and didn't. The only time ABC has had anything close to success in this slot for years is when they've aired unscripted there or when they aired a female skewing hour long comedy there. I guess they'll wait until the summer ratings come through to see whether they recommission Winter Wipeout - but looking at Last Resort I'm pretty sure they'll need some sort of mid-season replacement, even if WW did have it's lowest ever ratings this year.

I hope not - football is just a side show in the Olympics and swimming really is more deserving of the exposure - and actually much more chance of British success in the pool than on the pitch anyway.

It'll be interesting to see how those first Olympic games before the Opening Ceremony rate as very broadly speaking (a massive generalisation I know) football fans just don't rate Olympic football and don't care much for the Olympics in general. Whether "Team GB" competing changes that remains to be seen.

Multiple sources reporting that Rio Ferdinand will not be named in England's Euro 2012 squad.
I would like to think it is Roy Hodgson's way of trying to stop another of Rio's wind-up prank shows appearing on ITV1. If so, well done Roy.

I really like the look of Last Resort. A lot. And it appears to be, by some margin, ABC's best new series judging on the trailers at least. 666 Park Avenue looks like a network version of American Horror Story (which is never going to work), Red Widow looks a hell of a lot less interesting that Fox's Mob Doctor which covers similar ground, Nashville looks ok but I credit that entirely to the casting of Connie Britton (who I will watch in just about anything at this point), Mistresses looks awful which was predictable given that its a US remake of a UK attempt to do a glossy US drama and Zero Hour reminds me of The River – an excellent idea for a film but a terrible idea for a series. And all of the comedies look horrifically bad.

Surely this'll just mean he has more time to make one...?

If I was BBC Two I'd stick The Hour on repeat - get people on for series 2!
Other than that - yeah it'll be interesting how they play it. I don't think Holby was cut was it?

BBC Two VS ITV will be very interesting to see.

Oh thats true. That will be interesting to see.

Makes it easier for him to pick John Terry as well.

The documentaries knocked each other in the 9pm hour. The soaps performed really well; Coronation Street proved that it saw no real boost from Britain's Got Talent last week. The alternatives to the news performed reasonably well dor Channel 4 and Channel 5.

I expect ITV will get about 2.5-3m at 9pm most nights, depending on what they are showing, I expect factual & drama repeats, maybe a new drama that has been on the shelf a while. The soaps will be about 1m down on what they usually get in August. Despite what many will say, these ratings will not be a worrying and will not be a sign of any future trend.

BBC2's schedule will also be interesting, will it only be EE moving there, or will Holby & other BBC1 staples be shown as well.

I don't know how many will watch the opening ceremony, In my office people tend to only watch Channel 4 Shock-docs and would think nothing of scheduling a run of the mill night out on the same night, so I've no idea.

Haters will watch the opening ceremony more than anything else though so they can complain how rubbish it is/what a joke Boris Johnson was/How much money was wasted etc etc ”

EastEnders,Holby and a couple of other shows will be moving to BBC2.
The one show,Casualty and some other programes will be 'Rested' for the time being.
I assume EastEnders will keep it's normal slots.

Wow, lots to say about this one. Firstly, I figured that Private Practice will get the Tuesday slot, but did not expect it to be after Apartment 23. I can sort of see the Happy Endings vs New Girl clash, since both sitcoms has been flagging in numbers this spring. CBS is most likely not to join that bandwagon of Tuesday 9pm comedy battle, since their NCIS franchise is bringing CBS that Tuesday win every week. But what if CBS did though? Move the Thursday pairing (TBBT, any new CBS sitcom - forget Rules of Engagement) to 9pm? Have another drama at 8pm, resulting in NCIS franchise moving to Thursdays?

I agree with you that Body of Proof will take over Private Practice, when they complete their 13-episode run. The scenario may be that ABC is premiering BoP in March, like season 1. ABC will be expecting two surviving Tuesday sitcoms at 8pm, move DWTS results show at 9pm for their spring run and BoP can have the lead-in benefit for their first 9-10 episodes. BoP does skew older audiences and their total viewers have made a dramatic comeback in the last three episodes, when paired with DWTS results.

The very impossible move is that BoP will be scheduled at Thursday 10pm, after Grey's, to keep with the medical theme. Shonda Rhimes said that Scandal might have a 13-episode (or less) run for season 2, keeping with the mini-series format. The reality is that one of the new dramas will be placed there.

I still want to know why America's Funniest Home Videos is still on the network's schedule. It gets really shitty numbers and it's nowhere near CBS' 60 Minutes figures. They might as well put Wife Swap there. I am happy to see Revenge getting the Desperate Housewives slot. Sure, there is the soap opera/telenovela nature that the show brings. But also, it is one of the shows that many people are actually still talking about. Competing against football and Fox's Animation Domination, it should be interesting how they will perform. I am predicting a 2.5-3 for ABC Sunday from 8-11pm. They will be putting a really good fight. After all, we have underestimated Once Upon a Time before their premiere.

It'll be interesting what CBS does, I hope they move NCIS Los Angeles to 10pm Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 8pm and allow the 9pm slot to go to a new drama. I imagine Vegas and Elementary will be on in the Autumn, Golden Boy wil likely be midseason, Made in Jersey I think will be either be Sundays at 10pm or Fridays.

Remember there will be approx 5 gold medals in the swimming every evening.

The football at the same time will be round robin group matches.

I can't see the football taking priority. Especially as it goes on for so long - if it was put on BBC1 it would block out most of the evening.

Maybe at most they could show a few mins highlights and then say the last 15 mins live on BBC1 if it's exciting (with the whole match live on BBC3). Or just show the goals on BBC1 - eg in between swimming finals Lineker says "there's been a goal in the England game here it is."

Australian Ratings

A good night for all networks even if nothing overall stood out.

Seven

Home & Away: 0.93m
Once Upon a Time: 1.35m
Rafters: 1.21m

Nine:
The Block: 1.16m
TBBT: 1.01m/0.95m
Two Broke Girls: 0.76m/0.67m

Ten:
Masterchef:0.95m
Bikies (Documentary): 0.99m
Bikie Wars: 1.26m

In the demos the Bikie Wars was first, Once upon a time Second, the Block third, and Rafters nowhere to be seen for Seven however it has officially been renewed for a 6th season today as announced on Sunrise.

Good news for Seven that revenge has taken the old Housewives slot in America, hopefully it will be around for a few years to come yet

Australian TV had a great night overall. Agreed that it is far better than seeing most shows go below 1m. Moreover, it is great to see more scripted shows start well rather than your typical reality/talent shows. Here's hoping Offspring on Ten will improve tonight. Having said that, Nine really needs to sort out their sitcom scheduling. TBBT had horrendous numbers because it started as a repeat then a premiere. I'm sure most audiences had no idea which was which. As for 2 Broke Girls, another disappointing night. I think they might move to GO! next season, if it continues at this rate. Where is Two and a Half Men? Is Nine even showing it anymore?

Link: http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2012/05/...ce-winner.html

Meanwhile, Nine has "accidentally" leaked the winner of Celeb Apprentice, only to be deleted later. Not that it matters since the the show never exceeded that magic million mark anyways. It is the second time since Nine "stuffed up" after their Logie fiasco back last month.

I really caanot understand why people think soccer will be a big ratings draw in the olympics??
It's a bit like Tennis and the likes, that normally rate really well, but are non events in the olympics.

He might repeat might get to the semi final whereupon he will get ritually slaughtered by any one of the big three. Of course that might be on ITV1/4 possibly in the evening on a friday so might get very big ratings.

Yep I think they will leave the football on BBC3 mostly. I think that the opening men's match will pull in big numbers because it has no competition from other olympic events & there will be a bit of a novelty factor for a GB Football Team but once the games get underway properly whilst there will be more interest than is normally the case in football it will be down the list of priorities.

Cast announced for Jesus Christ Superstar (ITV1 are conducting a talent search for the lead role this Summer).
If I gave you 50 years to guess which theatre stars would be in it, it's safe to say you wouldn't guess who Lord Lloyd Webber picked...

Great start for Silk. Beats its previous best overnight figure of 5.32m for the very first episode. And following all from The Syndicate signs that the BBC1 Tuesday 9pm drama slot is starting to deliver the sort of ratings it ought to giving ITV's struggles on this day of the week.

Still think Holby City is underperforming considering its lead-in and competition.

Decent for Silk, pretty much in line with the first series' ratings if memory serves! Terrible for everything on ITV- puts that 7+ million rating for BGT which we all labelled as disappointing into perspective...

As for Chris Moyles being cast in Jesus Christ Superstar that pretty much makes a complete mockery of the show and in my view seriously damages the credibility of the ITV1 show to find the lead before it's even started. The TV show is going to flop- hard....

Good for Silk, despite it being one of the worst legal dramas I can remember. A good night for the Beeb with 2m watching the hospital doc on 2 at the same time.

I don't know about "horsepower" for Martin Clunes, it looks a bit of a donkey in ratings terms! That's an utterly appalling rating!
