I imagine the commentators will mention it during quiet times, don't expect an OSD saying EE about to start on BBC1, covering lane 8 on swimming or athletics

The issue is that for 90% of these shows the majority, if not all, of their budget is covered by the US license fee (this isn't entirely the case with The CW content) so if the US network isn't making money from the show they don't want to keep paying huge sums of money for it. Occasionally you'll see production companies cutting (and in some cases slashing) license fees for US networks to keep production going in part this is because the international revenue, DVD sales and domestic syndication can ultimately be used to offset the cost.

Anyway in other news entirely the big news coming out of USA Networks upfront appears to be that as of the end of July WWE Raw will be expanding to 3 hours permanently. In theory that should provide a slight up tick to USA's weekly average throughout the year. May cause some problems internationally for WWE though if their current network partners aren't willing to ramp up to 3 hours every week. Presumably Sky will have no problem with that though since again it should provide a decent increase for Sky Sports ratings wise throughout the year in an otherwise dead slot.”

I'm not sure if Raw could work three hours on a regular basis, it's fine for one-off occasions but I think it could drag down the ratings.

Sitcoms especially studio sitcoms like Two and a Half Men tend to perform very well in syndication as they can be aired out of order and you can dip in and out without too much problems. Drama tends not to repeat as well with a few exceptions.

Does anyone have any ratings data for the second series of the BBC3 Drama Lip Service?

Yup. Funny how that debate has gone quite of late Its always interesting to see whats not being talked about here

Is "EastEnders In Crisis" no longer in crisis then?

It's hard to say given the strange lack of comment of late. We talked of little else a couple of months ago...

Are there any numbers for Planet Earth Live. If the number of tweets is anything to go by it seems to have gained a bit of an audience.

EastEnders' current yearly average is down -8% from last year's equivalent average, more than any other soap (Corrie & Emmerdale: -3%). More recently in April to the first week of May, EE officially averaged 8.22m which was down -11% vs. last year's equivalent period. The BBC3 numbers have also slipped -13% so far this year, not to mention the omnibus which has lost a third of its audience since the silly move to late-night. While I wouldn't say it's a "crisis", a c10% drop from last year is a disappointing decline (currently EE's biggest y-o-y fall since 2006) and shows there's definitely room for improvement for the programme.

Glad to see The Exclusives flopped. I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but the promo for that show was so revoltingly appalling that the entire series deserved to flop for inflicting it on us.

Sadly some fool at the BBC will probably do just that.

If it is moving to BBC2 for the fortnight I wonder if that'll include the episode due to air on the night of the Opening Ceremony or whether that'll air either earlier in the week on BBC1 or at 7pm on Friday itself.

That is a horrible figure for the Exclusives. I saw it advertise numerous times on ITV1 and ITV2, so there seemed to be a lot of promotion for it.

I'm also intrigued to know if there are any ratings available for BBC3's Lip Service?

The Exclusives has a very exclusive audience I see

Not seen the ads but the website makes it sound like the anti-christ of reporting. Their bios will tell you exactly why the producers are a bunch of useless twonks; heres just a few.

Hayley - Glamour model with a degree in English and a keen writer. Who knew? (**** sakes)
Chris - A self-confessed geek with an undying love of movies, comics...and Beyonce! (bet hes not a geek)
Felix - A ladies man with charm to spare and host of his own radio show at Uni (this is important because...)
Sunny - A keen writer of poetry with a weakness for bright clothes

So basically this sounds like the reality shows that channel Trouble used to do when it was still growing. A proper Apprentice style 'Press Gang' would work well (Junior Reporters) but no wonder this show failed! Actual reporters/hopeful reporters wouldn't watch this bunch.

Daft commission. Who is it aimed at? Seriously, who?!
Just looking at what other mutli-channels had - its a big OUCH for ITV 2

ITV1 is doing nicely on Thursdays - New Tricks is keeping BBC afloat though - I do like that ITV don't just stick repeat on Tuesdays, they actually have a strategy in terms of what ITV 1/2/3/4 offer.

BBC Two being topical I see

Could we have a Gold, Silver, Bronze medal table for programmes from now until the Olympics begin?

The main competitors would be EE, CS, EM (+1 excluded) !!

Presumably it's a cynical attempt to get journalists who are featured in the series to write about it.

I'd love to know the ratings for BBC4 between half seven and half ten last night.

Is 'Sky Atlantic' officially a flop then?

Quote:
“Coogan will star as Partridge in two new one-hour specials as well as a TV adaptation of his online series, Mid Morning Matters. The shows will appear on Sky Atlantic as part of an output deal with Coogan's production company, Baby Cow.”

Basically - Sky should divide the shows they have across all their channels and ditch the whole channel...

A decent grab by them though. Still, it'll perform poorer there than on Sky One. What is it doing there?

I caught some of the TV Centre doc which looked good. Recorded the late-night repeat so looking forward to that. Missed the old Blue Peter so I hope they repeat that too at some point.

Thanks It's not doing very well then. Not very surprised by those figures though. The Friday 9pm slot is a terrible slot for it, when most of its target audience will be going out. I guess it's a reason for BBC3 to dump it after this series though - give it a poor slot then blame viewing figures. Aren't BBC3 keeping Being Human as their only drama?

It's a shame. Lip Service is a pretty decent series.

The BBC said last year basically it was either Being Human or Lip Service, so when it was the decent rating highly acclaimed drama versus the show nobody had seemed to have heard of the writing was pretty much on the wall.

It is a shame though BBC3 are losing all but one drama - firstly as it's something they can do well and such limitations both limits potential new series and also risks established series being killed off before they deserve to be to make way for new stuff (I think however well Being Human does next year it'll be axed) - and secondly it means ITV2 and E4 might drop the ball when it comes to original drama too. If BBC3 aren't doing it, why should they bother?

Although perhaps it should have happened a year or two earlier with BBC2 supposedly picking up the one-off dramas axed from BBC4 you'd think they'd pick up one long running BBC3 series too - although realitively speaking I'm not sure Being Human would be as successful for them as it is for BBC3, even if ratings did go up.

P.S. Talking of E4 drama any return date yet for Beaver Falls?

I'm surprised you want to mention This Morning's ratings as it's still losing 30% of it's lead-in and being beaten by all four of the shows it faces on BBC1. At least it keeps winning those NTA awards.

The promo was dreadful and actually left me annoyed that something like that got commisioned. Even ITV2 viewers had enough sense to leave this alone.

Lip Service's future never depended on those ratings - and there was never a face-off between it and Being Human: BBC Three's budget has been squeezed so tight that it could only afford a reduced order of BH for 2013 - and nothing else.

The only show that could have rivalled BH was The Fades - and that's already been axed.

Coogan's shows are on Sky Atlantic because the channel is (I think) exclusive to Sky subscribers, and so they are using his name to help drive their business. It doesn't matter if it performs poorly if it attracts more Sky subscribers.
