I'd be very surprised if that happens - the results are really on too late for a family audience. Dancing On Ice suffers with the same problem in the winter.

EastEnders started at 7:30 and finished at 7:56 which is odd because there was no News Update.

The episode thread was on page 9 by the time the episode finished. The monday last year when against BGT it was only on Page 3 so hopefully the 7:30PM move from the BBC was a wise one

Ten minute stop-gap. What do you expect them to show? One third of an episode of Dad's Army?

Exactly. It used to very often be a little ten minute programme called Trade Secrets. Each one of those must of been shown so many times, and they were getting pretty old towards the end. Quite good little programmes mind.

The snooker and EastEnders could squeeze Britain's Got Talent somewhat; especially as it was nowhere as good as last night's semi final. Theoretically it should see an increase but I wouldn't be surprised if it was under 9m excluding +1.

Not forgetting a relegation battle in the premiership, which could pull in a million, and the blokeish Robson Green's Extreme Fishing, which I'm watching now. BGT will win the night, but it won't be a walkover.

There have been a lot of dreadful semi finals over the years.
Below 9m WITH +1 wouldn't surprise me; but then as I said earlier, I don't see that as a bad rating

As for Big Brother - sadly it's a show not really worthy of much discussion anymore, and if BB4 and BB8 are anything to go by, Big Brother and multi-coloured logos don't usually end well. Just can't get excited by it anymore, and knowing C5 couldn't give a toss about the regular version makes it a non-starter really for me now.

It is a nice ad though - and a tedious link but reports today that Daniel Eatock (creator of the C4 eye) will be over seeing the rebranding of BBC2 - and they'll be ditching the 2.

It wasn't dreadful in fairness - it was actually quite good, just not as good as Sunday. Still a decent semi final though, and they got a great moment at the end.

I do think it might be dented a bit - I suspect a few people might be gloating in the morning.

Yes I think BGT will be down. It was a decent show but not as good as last night, so I can't see it being up. Plus stronger competition with EastEnders and the Corrie break will have hurt the results.

The first half was pretty slow stuff in terms of talent. They ended on a high, though. Just brilliant the way that worked out - the big bad panto villain has to realise that friendship conquers all. Staged? Never! But it still raised a smile anyway. In terms of live shows on BGT, this is definitely the best judging panel they've had. My concern remains, as it has been for months, that 45 acts is too much.

Ratings wise, this is probably where they have the potential to show a significant decline from last year. No chance of hitting 11.3m for the first show or 10.2m for the second one (both inc +1). But some kind of lift from last night would help - not sure they'll get it though. From then on if they rate like Sunday it's fine.

I agree, while CBB has a future, BB is exhausted now and while 1.3 million might be good for Channel 5, it is massively down on the show's peak. No doubt the Daily Star will have its usual screaming headlines to promote it, but no one will else will care. It is a dated format and reality has moved on tenfold since this was created, TOWIE is how the genre has developed.

Ouch. It would be more worthy if it was on 4, I suppose. Personally when I turn the telly on I just want to be entertained. If a few Guardian reading BBC4 watching types consider it unworthy, even better.


Yes, because how colourful the logo is really impacts on the quality of the show that follows! I can see why you make that connection, but come on, it ain't credible.


Why, because they're not doing 17 weeks of it? The cut in length has been long overdue. It was dragging on C4 and whilst the show can still produce strong audiences it's past its peak and the shorter run reflects that. It doesn't mean they don't care for it and don't want it to work.

Oh well. I'm confident Big Brother will do well this year. Looking forward to crunching the numbers with yourself and others when the time comes.

I always think that a good ending can cover a lot of cracks within the show and that was the case tonight. Although the second half of the show was pretty good on the whole, the ending was brilliantly done. The producers can pat themselves on the back for that one.

Yeah it'll be down tonight. I can't see it doing much, if at all, better than last night for the performances and the results will be a little lower again. I won't be surprised if Corrie tops the night actually, which happened a couple of times last year too IIRC. They'll be hoping that Jonathan & Charlotte and Ashley & Pudsey generate a bit of talk in workplaces tomorrow to give the week a bit of a kick. The show itself is certainly a huge step up from the last few years across the board: talent, judges, production - the whole thing is just so much better. They just need to get a bit of newspaper coverage to help them out a bit.

Never thought I'd see the day when you were bigging up TOWIE Glenn as some outstanding TV innovation. I've seen it all now.

Look out for bigger audiences for BB on Channel 5 this year to justify its place in the schedules. Having the papers on side can only get you so far, just look at what happened to The Voice. Put on an entertaining show and viewers will respond.

I think it has life in it yet. I think the last series was horribly miscast and it really got lost in the Autumn schedule. Launching off the back of CBB meant there was very little hype or buzz - it started low so it didn't really stand much of a chance.

I do think it could do better this time around. It'll be launching on its own with what looks like a decent promotional campaign, it's the summer so should attract a decent anti-sports audience, and if the casting's right I see no reason why it can't be up on the last series.

Well TOWIE and its imitators is how reality has moved on and it pulls in as big an audience as BB. BB is clapped out now, the format belongs in the early noughties and it's the same old thing every year. The celeb one I do agree has a future as people do like some Z lister being shown up, but not the normal one.

So more front page headlines for the Voice this week to get it more public awareness. Very important these front page stories continue to ensure it doesnt fall much in the ratings this weekend.

I loved BB for years and years- even when it became seriously uncool to like it.

I had high hopes when it moved to C5 last year, but gave up about 3/4 of the way through as it just was not BB any more. I think the point where they allowed family members to nominate was the straw that broke the camels back.

I did watch CBB earlier in the year and loved it, seemed more like BB than the normal one.

I just hope they have learnt from their first BB and improve it drastically. I will be watching this year, but they need a better cast and much less meddling.

Still a month to go and you're already becoming irrationally (though I think somewhat knowingly!) over protective. It's no longer much of a talking point as firstly nobody watches it and secondly it doesn't really even perform remarkably by C5 standards, so just kind of sits in C5's schedule unnoticed.

But hey, I'm probably quite irrational too when it comes to Big Brother as I do genuinely believe there could be life in the format yet and if it was done right it could find a respectable audience again, even on C5. For me though C5 pretty much did exactly the opposite of what I'd like to have seen done with the show - so it would take a heck of a lot for them to get me hooked once again.

It's quite impressive that The Voice is getting these headlines considering it's supposed to be Britain's Got Talent's big week.
