But in this case, the cliches are true. Cyprus has given Greece 12 points 15 years in a row !

I like the idea of having difference countries in Europe competing against each other in a musical competition. But as long as the tactical voting and rigging goes on, I'll never be a fan.

Who cares?

Greece and Cyprus more or less share the same culture and music industry. If they want to give 12 points to one another than they've got every right to do so.

Sounds pretty acurate to me.

The UK and Ireland have similar culture but we dont give each other 12 points every single year, nor do some of the Scandinavian countries. Fact is, as much as the EBU tries to revamp Eurovision so it has more integrity, it will still be regarded as a joke by many people as long as the tactical voting goes on and dancing grannies appear on it. Its still very popular on the final night, but the semi finals only have a hardcore fanbase of half a million.

Really don't know what Danny Cohen did to merit that tirade of abuse from the Daily Mail, which looks like it is in desperate need of something to fill the paper with...

While we wait for ratings, it looks like the warm weather is going to continue throughout the next week and into the beginning of June, so the Diamond Jubilee weekend ratings may be deflated a bit - although saying that it may be that the Jubilee stuff does as well as expected, but it's the other stuff that struggles a lot.

Anyone know what the weather was like back in 2002?

Sounds mild compared to some of the stuff you came up with

We use the Daily Mail in the farm toilet. Shite on Shite. I don't know much about Danny Cohen, but If The DM says that about him, he's probably doing a good job.

There are people that like it and there are people that don't like it, just like any TV show. Eurovison is a fun entertainment show and 'dancing grannies' is part of that.

I think you need to lighten up just a bit.

I agree. The Jubilee is a big event so it will probably draw a large number regardless of the weather.

OK, so...

Quote:
“- Danny Cohen has gambled £22million of licence payers' money on ratings flop The Voice”

That "flop" that's averaging six million. In fact nowhere does this feature actually include any ratings numbers whatsoever.

Quote:
“Saturday’s shambolic show was marred by host Holly Willoughby being forced to make an on-air apology after a female contestant was caught swearing on camera, and an embarrassing technical hitch when celebrity judge Jessie J’s microphone broke down.”

Unlike The X Factor, which has also had contestants swearing on camera (and saying it, not mouthing it) and Britain's Got Talent with that famous bit when that little girl cried after she forgot her words. The kind of thing that happens in every live programme ever.

Quote:
“It is Mr Cohen, of course, who has declared war on popular middle-class shows — comedies such as My Family and Outnumbered — in favour of ‘edgier’ output.”

Outnumbered hasn't been axed, and My Family stopped being popular years ago.

Quote:
“Then there was Snog Marry Avoid?, a ‘make-under’ show in which women, with and without make-up, are presented to random men in the street before being judged on their looks.”

Nice spin on the format there to suggest it does the opposite of what the point of it is, which is to say they don't actually need make-up.

Quote:
“During his tenure at BBC1, there have been similar controversies. Last summer, for example, there was an outcry from viewers after the Dr Who spin-off Torchwood began with a seven-minute gay sex scene before the 9pm watershed.”

Dunno where to start with this. I think the only accurate thing in it is that Torchwood is a Dr Who spin-off.

Quote:
“As well as dumping the popular My Family last year, he also pronounced there were ‘too many male detectives’ on TV, neatly forgetting the fact that shows such as Lewis, Sherlock and Wallander are enormously popular.”

And Sherlock and Wallander have been recomissioned,

But apart from all that, and the stuff slagging off his wife as if that's relevant, yeah, it's fine.

I think it has always been pretty clear that Danny Cohen staked a lot on The Voice. And as it's only license fee money the main thing on the line was his own reputation. A few weeks ago he had Simon Cowell humbly conceding. It has gone the other way now and The Daily Mail always like to write very judgemental "behind the scenes" articles. IIRC even FOX network's Mike Darnell got one last year when Cheryl Cole got sacked from XF USA! The fact that he ran BBC3 (which is hardly a DM favourite) and is a well paid BBC executive gives them extra ammo. I remember one behind the scenes account of Big Brother auditions in which Tanya Gold (now at The Guardian, I believe) ratched up the drama by describing a high ranking female producer as "an ice cold blonde with eyes of a killer" which seemed rather tough!

He seems to have gained a reputation for being a stereotype of "meeja" sorts - The Daily Mail is a bit behind on that one because I'm pretty sure the blog has barely been updated since 2009 and it was the talk of the industry in about 2007-2008.

It wasn't before 9pm, the article is wrong there.

Ok a few weeks ago they were arrogantly proclaiming to be the "UK's Number 1 Entertainment show" and proclaiming that contestants would no longer enter The X Factor because The Voice was the bigger show.

And now they are getting all precious and defensive. If you cant take the heat boys, get out of the kitchen.

It wasn't seven minutes either, and that certainly isn't the only thing that's wrong. I've only seen a few quotes as I could do without all the bullshit, but I've seen enough to know it's typical Daily Mail rubbish full of blatant lies. The whole article sounds like a gift to the likes of GeorgeS, Andy23 and Fudd.

That Daily Mail article is shockingly biased.
For one, The Voice isn't a 'huge' hit everywhere else. It only gets 10 million in the US, significantly down on American Idol.

but thats the daily mail totally.
wont be happy until the BBC shows nothing but songs of praise and watch with mother 24/7.

format wise the voice is sound its been the crap production values.the weak performance of some of the judges.
Red or black on ITV just had a terrible format and no matter how many changes they make its going to remain a crap format.

the voice was doing amazing until the liveshows and its been those shows that have taken all the negative comments for the reasons like poor production and judge interaction etc.

They've stopped tweeting the ratings that's for sure. The ratings have tumbled for The Voice. No way it can be seen as good. The live shows aren't appealing to people.

I can't even begin to go through all the inaccuracies in that DM article. Terrible journalism. Especially describing Jessie J as a "self confessed bisexual" - never mind any of her achievements in life eh? Bizarre.

I disagree the format of the Live shows has killed it IMO. They had some decent contestant but having to get rid of 2 from 2 teams each week was stupid, it meant that you were getting rid of good people from some teams, whilst keeping rubbish people on on others. It killed the momentum the show had before that.
