Whenever I try and make bread rolls, the outside of them turn out rock hard. Is there a knack to making them soft?

Sprinkle them with flour before you put them in the oven.

I brush mine with milk when they come out the oven, which softens the crust and gives it a shine.

Thanks.

my OH wants me to try and make him some gluten free bread too, haven't a clue how to go about it. Will have to invest in a good baking book.

I brush them with milk before they go into the oven. And sprinkle them with flour. Soft result guaranteed.

gluten free bread is a pain to get right so i been told, a friend of mine makes her daughter gluten free bread, cheaper than buying it.

On recipe she uses is here, the problem is getting the Ingredients, certainly around here anyway, Sainsburys sell some, but not everything, so my friend uses this place.

Gluten free bread is not like normal bread, it don't taste like normal bread either sadly.

As for soft rolls, put a small tray of water in the bottom of the oven, the steam will stop the crust forming.

Thanks, will give that recipe a go, provided i can find all the stuff! Gluten free stuff is ridiculously expensive, and I've tried the bread rolls from Tesco and they're grim

Are you sure?
When making baguettes it is recommended to spray the dough or put water in the bottom of the oven to help make the crust.

Yes, sorry, you are right, it is to make them crust, not not soft. not with it.

Milk on top makes them soft.

Been a while since i made rolls
