Just dropped my 17 year old cat off at the vets for a teeth clean and I'm an absolute mess!

I've had him since a kitten and apart from being impaled on a spike when he was less than a year old, he's not had too many health problems. Took him to the vets last week as I noticed he'd been struggling to eat and drink and turns out his teeth/gums were really sore and painful so vet suggested to put him under for a clean.

I've never left him overnight on his own since my mum died and I was so upset at leaving him at the vets today. It's horrible being in the house without him and all I can think about is how he is and worrying he is okay as He can be quite a nervous cat at times.

Dont really know what I am after in typing this thread, maybe just a way of trying to get my worry out as OH is at work and I'm lonely without my boy!

I know when I have had to leave mine at the vets it felt so weird in the house without them, luckily I live across the road from the vets so they let me pop in for a visit or I can call. I'm sure you're little man will be fine and you can always call the vets to see how he is doing.

I hate leaving Amber and since we've had her we've only had one holiday together

She had to spend some time at my parents and we had builders in (complete renovation) after a few days I went and stayed ay my folks with her.

These furry little critters get right under your skin don't they!

Mine had to have her teeth cleaned last year and she ended up having to have one of them out. (She can't eat biscuits so she doesn't have them scratching off the plaque.) When she went in I spent most of the day worrying, the vet did keep me informed about when she went in, how they had to sedate her as she was a fiesty little madam (it's actually on her notes at the vet that she is quite vicious at times) then give her anaethestic, then they did the cleaning and rang me to say she needed one of the teeth out as it had a hole in. They also rang me when she was coming round.

It was the first time she has been in the cat basket and was quiet. When she got home she went straight to the food bowl. I hadn't seen her for a while so I went into the kitchen and she was sat there with her head leaning on the food bowl. She was obviously hungry but couldn't eat anything. I felt bad for laughing but it looked like she was falling asleep with her head in the bowl.

I just hate not knowing what's going on, whether he is okay etc. Gonna ring about lunchtime if I've not heard anything.

OH and I haven't had a holiday since we met, my mum died 6 months after we got together and I'm so protective over him that I don't want to go away and leave him or even have family come in and look after him while we are away. I made a promise to mum that I would look after him like she did and I don't want to go back on it. People find it odd that we don't go away and can't understand why I can't leave him. I'd only worry about him and I'm not everso bothered about holidays.

The vet said that he's in good condition for a cat of his age so I must be doing something right!!

One of my cats is a very nervous cat and had to have a teeth clean about 18 months ago so I know how you feel. Like elliecats cat, she doesn't eat biscuits so her teeth suffer because of it. She ended up having an extraction too. She was fine when she got home, even gobbled down a bowl of food suprisingly. Poor thing was starving and nothing was going to stop her. The vet had given me a couple of pouches of special food for her and she loved it. I still can't get her to eat biscuits so looks like she's going to have to go through it all again sometime in the near future.

He'll soon be back home with you so try not to worry.

I've just called the vets and they said he is in surgery now and to ring back in about an hour. Don't know what time he went down (didn't think to ask!) but hope they will give me a ring before I have to ring back.

He eats biscuits, I buy him some Science Plan hairball ones as he had problems with hairballs and they are quite big compared to Go-Cat and the like but sometimes he just swallows them whole. He's never been one for wet food, although since taking him last week he has been eating a bit more of it, probably because he was struggling to eat his biscuits. He LOVES prawns, so have been feeding him a small amount a couple of times a day for the past week just to also to help him eat. Seems that when he eats his prawns, he can then move onto his other food. He'll be getting a big plate of them when he gets home!!

All this waiting around is driving me absolutely mad, have tried watching some of my Sky+ programmes but not really taking it in. All I keep thinking about is how he is

My 14 year old cat had same thing done I was fretting all day! I was going through a bad time when she went in and worried incase something would go wrong etc .
She was fine teeth were sorted even though she does rub mouth for attention as vet said there is nothing wrong with her ! Funny enough when she sees dreamies the rubbing stops lol

Cat came home last night with only his canine teeth left!! Poor little chap went straight to hid water and gave him some prawns which he ate so it's a good thing although will be keeping an eye on him as he looked as if he was going to be sick not long after and had coughed a couple of times but will mention it to vets tomorrow.

Keeps crazing me for biscuits so have tried to crush them and soak them in water to make them softer but he's not having any of it!!
