So interesting that you feel the same
I cannot take any credit for your idea here. I couldn't copy all the quotes from the locked thread, but yours was one of those that I would have!

I guess I was just following up on your comments by saying that I think the presenters need to be more explicit about what they announce as a headline (news) and what they announce as an editorial (their opinion) and not confuse the two, which some of them do too often IMO.

I don't agree at all and I think you may have missed the point. The presenters are there to give opinions (as are the callers), but the objection is where they merge their opinion with the hard facts of the reporting and confuse the two. Some of them use this technique to ridicule those who disagree, because it then makes it seem as if anyone who disagrees is simply wrong, rather than being someone with a different opinion. Those same presenters also seem to use name-calling and belittling as a technique, too, which ties in with the same theme. Very unbecoming and, to my ears, much more boring than a debate in which all opinions are allowed to be heard.

Nick lining up the latter day Fred Kites and shooting them down as they try and justify their reasons for striking today! Great listening!

That'll have them steaming with rage. We'll have to wait and see how it pans out.

I have no problem with presenters expressing their own opinions on air but the issue I have is how they allow them to take over their shows. Nick Ferrari for example, generally gives callers (and guests) that agree with him an easy time and they can say just about anything without being challenged. On the other hand, callers that disagree with him get a tough interogation and are made to justify their views. As a result, people that agree with him are more likely to phone in which creates a more unbalanced show and snapshop of how the public are thinking.

Contrast this with Iain Dale, who also has strong opinions but challenges callers on both sides of the debate and welcomes opinions that are different to his own. The result is that his shows provide a much more balanced debate of the issues discussed and so are far more informative and interesting to listen to.

As far as I'm concerned it seems that James Whale is about the only presenter who will listen to someone for an inordinately long time as he frequently does, often running into the news and quarter hour breaks.

LOL you guys, re. Frank Ifield and lederhosen ..

I haven't heard a thing on LBC this morning, as I have my radio on at a level where you can't quite hear what they are saying and is just 'noise' in the background .. why I don't either just turn it up or turn it off, I have absolutely no idea

Yes, I've noticed that. James gives a fair amount of time to his callers and doesn't cut them off 'only because I need to get more callers in' as others do.

However, he is quick to get rid of calls that he considers are "talking rubbish" !

I usually agree with him when that happens. He won't stand for idiots.

Here's a riveting time-waster: currently Viscount Rothermere (Daily Mail owner) - Coulson and Brookes this afternoon.

DigitalSpy has been offline for a while. This is the notice they have been displaying:

Due to scheduled maintenance, the Digital Spy forums are currently closed. We are working hard to rectify the problem and hope to be open for business again soon so please try again later. In the meantime, do visit the news site atwww.digitalspy.co.uk

Well, call me picky but if the maintenance was scheduled, what problem are they trying hard to rectify? Also, they direct us to www.digitalspy.co.uk which was closed too.

I think they need a new notice.

Great news, indeed - that was quick. His defeat is still raw, though... I hope he doesn't spend all his air time talking about Boris

Yipeeee....... Byeeeeee Jacqui Smith.

H's show, last night, featured several callers with anecdotes relating to Vidal Sassoon.

I agree with you, if it's scheduled maintenance then there's nothing to rectify. Madness.

I had a scary experience early this morning when I opened up my computer, it hadn't been turned off, just put to sleep. I was busy minding my own business doing what I was doing (playing Scrabble actually) and the program went down and a blue screen appeared with the words, "HE'S DEAD, JIM". !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I nearly had a heart attack, the screen of death.

It wasn't, as it happens, it was Windows closing me down because it had done updates. Honestly, how to confuse a stupid person!!!!!

Back on topic, I've nothing to add about LBC because I haven't been listening.

Don't celebrate too soon. I bet she's still on the subs bench, and it wouldn't surprise me if she's shifted to Sundays to do a double header with her chum Iain!
